That's what it is, a trial. Nothing is guaranteed with it.

Maplin are selling them for 32 euro in the shop in Blanchardstown. I have one I bought in Currys in Newry for £25. Works fine.

Depending on your location you might be able to pick up the DTT Trial in progress (This is primarily in the Dublin region, maybe further north too - the Transmitters in use are 3-Rock and Clairmont Cairn, if that means anything to you).
    - Without a box for the trial, you might be able to pick up RTE 1, RTE 2, TV3 and TG4 as they are currently unscrambled. But, it is a trial so there's no guarantee of service and if it's ever going to be made permanent.
    - Since it's a trial, there's not much point in spending a heap of cash on a new Digital Receiver if you haven't got one already. There are some other threads in here outlining the perils and pitfalls of the Trial.
    - There are some other channels, but they are encrypted and can only be seen if you're part of the 1,000-odd users who were included as part of the trial when it started.

could i not pick up digital tv from the uk with the aerial on my roof

i can pick up analog uk channels with it, why not DTT

What's wrong with your other thread? Reception of analogue tv has no bearing on receiving DTT.

Do you know what transmitter you're receiving your UK channels from at the minute?

What is the analogue signal like for your UK channels at present?

Picking up DTT will depend on your incoming signal quality, and the transmitter. Not all NI/UK transmitters carry DTT.

The two threads have been merged.
