Am I the only one who saw Hugh Laurie in this serious role before seeing any of his comedy? Oh, and, being American, he had me fooled. Gotta love him! *wipes drool*

Yep, he is extremely EXTREMELY attractive all right!

I'd say you're not the only one. It depends on your age I suppose. I'm a big fan of Blackadder (around 20 years old now) and he just isn't sexy material in it! And he was very soft-skinned and baby-faced. Ageing has definitely hottened him up!
Yep, Americans are well impressed by his accent - I don't know. I think it sounds a bit forced, but that's probably cos I'm so used to him being a bumbling Englishman - he's an Eton and Oxford graduate, Dad was a champion rower. Real old-school English upper-crust.

I used to watch "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" a lot years ago and thought it was a brilliant series.

It took some time before I gave House a go though as I wasn't entirely convinced about the idea of him playing an american doctor... But I started watching this year and have already caught up on all the episodes and it's a brilliant show... even though it's almost the same formula each week in the plots watching what Laurie does with the character of House is consistently entertaining.

No. Most Americans first exposure to Hugh was through House. Some may have spotted him in Stuart Little but I doubt anyone paid attention. If you're Irish or English (and of a certain age) you'll have seen him in A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Blackadder or a number of other comedies produced over here.

A Bit of Fry and Laurie was great alright, Hugh's highlight was probably "Mystery" a song which I believe he wrote as well as performing. I like the way whenever Stephen Fry mentions him now he follows it with "Whatever happened to him anyway?".

And of course Dr Chase is played by Jesse Spencer who used to play the Billy Kennedy, son of Dr Karl and Susan Kennedy, in Neighbours. Another ex-Aussie soapstar who has done well for himself in the States - even if he plays the most annoying character by a mile.

My favourite House factoid is that Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy), once played the transsexual girlfriend Richard Fish in Ally McBeal.
