Nope, didn't expect this baby to get in, but it has! It's just an absolute genre bending masterpiece, one of the most original films I've seen, and honestly it's great to see some more underground film getting in to the FotW.

    Discuss!

Wow, Im amazed (and delighted) that this made it in. The swarm of bees scene alone was a stroke of genius! :D

I think it's a brilliant film. like Karl said, it is a genre bending film. It has aspects of Action / Adventure, Drama, sci fi, comedy, horror / thriller etc...

I think what makes the film is the last 5 / 10 mins. just pure "WWWHAT?" genious

I think the genius of those last 5/10 mins is that when you think about it the ending isn't actually a big WTF? moment, it actually make a lot of sense and finishes off the film brilliantly.

Me too, and frankly, I'd like to see more of this kind of thing happening. Not just voting for classics that everyone has already seen.

Yes, let's vote for films people have never heard of! ;)

This is a sound plan, and I cannot think of anything that would get in the way of it's implemenation. :)

Woot! Good to see this in. I think 'genre bending masterpiece' is the only words that can really describe the whole experience. And it's nice to see an underdog on a list that has been perhaps overly dominated by token classics for the last little while. Good films yes, but I think it's nice to see smaller films make the list more frequently as some may actually discover these gems afresh.

Woo! I thought it might get in alright after it went close last week. Great film, so original. I honestly didn't know what to make of it the first time I saw it, but over time it has become one of my favourite Asian movies. The ending is absolutely superb.

I think with my previous thread on the subject, and now Film Of The Week, the film is well publicized on boards, eh?

I wonder if any of the main posters here haven't seen it yet?

Watched it last night... It was alright, but definitely didn't live up to my expectations. I wouldn't consider it FotW material anyway, but worth a watch nonetheless.

I'd say that's because of all of us ranting about it. :D

    Sorry. :o

    agreed

I know I wouldn't have enjoyed 2001 as much as I did if I didn't have those people telling me it's a waste of time and there's very little dialoge etc...

Been meaning to see this for a while, looks bizzarely entertaining.
Just picked it up from play.com for €8!

Meant to chime in on this, although most of it's already been said. One of the best blending of multiple genres I've ever seen - moments of wincing terror to heartbreak to laughter. Utterly crazy, but in the style of a friendly lunatic rather than a demented psychopath.
I think it really works as an undiscovered gem - too often a movie can get hyped up and then can but fail to live up to expectations. I had the fortune to see this at the Tartan Asia Film Festival and was bowled over, knowing nothing about it before that - a pleasure I believe RetroGamer had too. It's those moments when you get to tell yourself you've discovered a little modern classic rather than being told you're about to watch one, that can make cinema going so rewarding.

I had a similar experience, except it was the Galway Film Fleadh. Knew nothing about it other than the fact it was Korean, and was blown away.

I Watched this the other day after reading about it here and I have to say I was not really that impressed , its a decent enough movie but I could have lived without seeing it.

This makes me a sad panda. :(

It's quite possibly one of the best film I've seen in the last decade, and it's sad to see the movie didn't have the same impact on everyone.

I suppose that's the dilema of an unknown film that you get blown away by, you can't not tell everyone about, explain just how fantastic it was and get them to see this film, but in doing so you hype it up for them, and maybe it doesn't meet their expectations? What do you do? Risk a great film going unnoticed, or hazard ruining it for people? Damned if you do and damned if you don't, it seems.

To add one note (so late), I loved that film. I didn't know what to think about it at beginning, after that it was really scary, but the more I watched the more I was amazed.
I hadn't seen something like that before. And I am happy that it made to be Film of the week, not only film of the weak.

Watched it at the weekend and I agree. The ending didn't come as any surprise. I definitely think my expectations were built too high from this board.
But then again if it hadn't been mentioned so much here I probably never would have watched it. It's a lose-lose situation.

Really? Thought the ending was one of the best things about it and was totally different to anything I had seen before. Came out of the cinema thinking that it was an awful way to end a film and then it hit me what the ending actually did represent and realised that it was absolute genius.
