I was only thinking the other day, as i drove past the ground, there is a huge potential for Rovers in Tallaght. Not only have Rovers already ot a big following, but putting them in the middle of Tallaght is surely going to attract a lot more followers.

as well as the locals, think how many Poles/Nigerians/Latvians etx that are living around there and would love the opportunity of watching decent football at the expense of a ten minute stroll. (I might even take my brother in law up on his invites and come along myself).

Shame about Thomas Davis, GAA will never compete with football so they should be working at ways they can complement each other not rival each other. Three years ago, if they had decided to build a joint "Tallaght" stadium for both sports, this may have turned out better.

I'm glad that Rovers won. It turned into an absolutely farcical situation and there was only ever going to be one outcome.

That's one of the most ignorant and uninformed statements I've ever read on boards. In terms of playing the sport (5-a-sides don't count) and going to matches, GAA is far bigger than football in Ireland. I'd love if there was a way that they could complement each other as I'm a huge fan of both, but I just don't see it happening. Anyway, that's a different discussion altogether, so I'll leave it at that.

Indeed, GAA are winning the battle. This stadium was part of the battle, and shows how good the GAA are at stopping the development of football. They rock at it, the FAI suck.

Dont forget the residents of the (official shamrock rovers? :)) halting site adjacent to the stadium.

The FAI are just as good if not better at crushing football in Ireland than the GAA. It shouldnt be a battle between the two, the country is big enough for both.

FAI are far superior than teh GAA at stopping the development of football in this country.

Shame most peoplelook to england for the next irish superstar when its he FAIlings of the club down the road from them for the lack of superstars.

tommorow is about costs, but TD will apply for an appeal

they have to prove that it is the national interest to do so and only on a point of law. they also have to get the judge who gave them a mauling in his ruling to agree. not likely, but then again, we are nearly 3 years in already, so who knows.

Can anyone provide a link of some sorts on the history of this issue because I'm more a hurling supporter but love soccer as well.

A bit of background is what I'd really appreciate. Really. Plus, not in Ireland at the moment so not up to speed.

    Thanks

    K.

Shamrock Rovers start to build a stadium in Tallaght.

Run out of money to continue. In fact, run out of ANY money whatsoever, then have their debts cleared by some means.

Half built stadium lies there for years.

South Dublin County Council decide to finish the stadium for Rovers.

Local GAA Club Thomas Davis decide they want a piece of the ground, even though TD have ample land in other parts of Tallaght.

TD state that they want to destroy Rovers. TD are being backed by the Dublin County Board.

TD take it to court, to try to force Rovers and SDCC to share the ground.

While all of this is going on, the ground still isn't being build (the dimensions would have to change if GAA was to be allowed in).

Finally, a judge finds in favour of Rovers.

    TD to appeal.

Meanwhile, "fans" of Irish soccer clambour to GAA Headquarters to sing Olé Olé, oblivious to the fact that the GAA are currently locked in a court battle, with the sole intention of forcing one of Ireland's most historic and successful soccer clubs to the wall. **** the lot of them. GAA and Oirland fans alike.

Fúck Thomas Davis. Fúck the GAA, arseholes.

And I fúcking hate Shamrock Rovers, by the way.

Other key issues here are that Rovers have a legally binding deal with the SDCC, they have to build us a 'suitable venue' in return for the land.

secondly, at the moment the SDCC investment into the stadium would be €4m and that will get a 10,000 all seater venue that will be used for underage internationals and cup finals.

the GAA 'plan' would involve the demolition of all the existing structures, undersoil drainaige and a totally new stadium designed. 1,500 to 2,000 seats for an outlay of aroiund €15m. and they stated in court they didn't know who would use it and how often.

Have never been a GAA fan, but never had anything against the organisation or any clubs until this all started.

They are scum of the highest order.

I take it SDCC have to wait for the outcome of this appeals process before they can start the buildign work again? When are we looking at before we actually see real live workers on the site?

Depends how long this appeal takes probably, but Rovers have been talking about being in there for the 2009 season.

In fact, they were telling fairy tales of playing games there this season.

But given the rate County Councils carry out work, I'd say any time between 2015 and 2115 would be a good bet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,121 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

SDCC will want to start work ASAP because if TD win the appeal, it will be TD who will have to pay for the demolition, not SDCC.

I'd say once we get into spring and it's not raining every day, they'll start work on it.

Shouldn't take them too long to put a stadium that size up.

It's disgraceful enough coming from a single club, but for the GAA to condone the actions of TD and help to "destroy" a club from another sporting body is just unforgivable.

I won't be going to any Ireland matches while we're playing in Croke Park as I don't want the GAA to get any of my money.

It This is absolutely sickening from the GAA
    Yeah.

But, remember. The FAI knew about this, but still got into bed with the GAA in Croker.

Another example of the FAI talking out of both sides of it's mouth.

Telling everyone they are backing Rovers, but at the same time giving money to the GAA for Croker. That same money is being pumped back back into "grassroots" GAA, ie local clubs, including Thomas Davis.

So, in effect, the FAI were contributing to the Thomas Davis cause.

I was never a great lover of the GAA, but this makes my blood boil.

so at the moment TD are appealing the court order?
I live very close to the stadium and drive by it on a daily basis. It's a contant reminder to the scandal that goes on in both GAA and FAI.
