Was always a big Semisonic fan.. and missed both chances to see them play Dublin before they parted ways. Or more specifically, their record company somewhat forced them to part ways.

But i've been following Dan Wilson's solo stuff for the last few years and it generally is excellent. And after working on producing other artist's efforts, he finally releases his much anticipated solo album ('Free Life') in the States this week.

Am listening to it right now and it's very impressive.. a very easy listening album. Standout tracks being 'Free Life', 'Come Home Angel' and 'All Kinds'

Any Semisonic fans should enjoy it anyways.

You can listen to a couple of the tracks on his MySpace

i love semisonic, although i was probably one of those johnny come latelies as i only knew them after hearing closing time in a pub one night. i hated the way people latched onto secret smile and then completely ignoed the next album, though.

shall be going to my nearest itunes store presntly to see if they have the new album in stock.

I got into them relatively early. It was after hearing 'Closing Time' while in Canada years ago (the summer before my Junior Cert to be exact). Went out the next day and bought 'Feeling Strangely Fine'.

Absolutely adored it and got a present of 'Great Divide' and thought it was even better than 'Feeling Strangely Fine'. 'All About Chemistry' is a real tough one though - my least favourite of the three but many of my friends who somewhat like them REALLY got 'All About Chemistry' and praised it. A good album but my personal least favourite!

They played their last gig in Dublin the night before my Leaving Cert Physics exam.. couldn't really skip that but regretted it ever since.

But give Dan Wilson's album a listen.. it's great to hear his fantastic voice with some new material anyways.

Was always a Semisonic fan, again because of 'Closing Time'. Loved 'Singing In My Sleep' as well. I'll definitely have a listen of the solo stuff.

Semisonic were a great band, and a favourite of mine too.

Have been waiting for news of this solo album, so will have a look out for it now.

I remember seeing them play Rock Am Ring in Germany in 2001 - a great experience - slightly tainted by the memory of rioting slipknot fans in the crowd (slipknot had just cancelled their slot that night)

Just having a listen to this now.... Very Bernard Fanning-y (Powderfinger).
    I like it...

Yeah, it's excellent actually. Very catchy.. very mellow. I read a review that had amazing things to say about it but not to judge it based on Semisonic's sound.

It's very different but very good!
