    Hi guys,

I'm sure people who have NTL standard digital services are well versed on the number of channels they receive. I know a number of channels has been removed from the service and replaced where approrpaite as discussed in this forum. For those who don't know the MMDS service is a 'lite' version of the NTL standard disgital service. The differences may not seems major to you but I'd likie to have the same options as provided on the standard service. Such differences would be that both NTL services have Living (now called DAVE I believe) but the Standard digital has the Living +1 channel. Now MMDS has digital choice which is the add-on for additional channels...something like 7.50 extra per month...and would include a mix of channels the are spread over packages in the standard digital service.. I know the Standard digital service has something called Max from reading other threads on here.

So my question is: Is there any 'hear say' or truth in the Greystones/Charlesland beinjg upgraded to the standard digital service? I suppose this service would be beneficial when the PVR and 7 day EPG come on stream. I reckon MMDS would be left short. Any help and info is appreciated.

P.S. I did contact NTL and they have me a single liner - There is no knowledge of an upgrade being planned at present.

there's less bandwidth available on MMDS, hence less Channels (its actually UKTVG2 that's been renamed as Dave btw).

I would say the only prospect of a full service in Charlesland is if UPC upgrade the (former) Chorus system in the rest of Greystones they may then connect it up to the system in Charlesland. I wouldn't expect this to happen anytime soon.

AFAIK the DVR is available for MMDS customers - you'll have to ring UPC\NTL to find out. Personally I got fed up of waiting and moved to Sky+.

does anyone know if chorus in greystones is actually cable or re-bounced mmds?

its actual cable - ie. there is a (sh1t) analogue service. Its been available since the late-70s at least (under various different company names) so don't think there's any MMDS involved though I couldn't tell you where the head-end is. No digital the last time I checked, so i presume its due an upgrade.

Have you TV5MONDE on MMDS in Greystones and elsewhere?

TV5 is on the NTL MMDS service.

I cant see Greystones getting it anytime soon, I've rang em up sooo many times, and they say they dont know, on more than one occasion they said yeah sure we'll come around next week and install digital for you, then getting a call eh wait there is no digital, I've been messed about by UPC so many times now...

Go for sky, much better channel line up and EPG and its not a pack of useless morons who have no idea about anything they're selling unlike UPC, I actually hate UPC so much :P

I think where the confusion lies is that Greystones is serviced by both Chorus *and* NTL - the Chorus areas in Greystones can only get analogue cable, whereas the areas serviced by NTL are digital-enabled, although I'm not sure if it's via cable or MMDS - methinks MMDS.
