Just finished the course in May, I opted for the finance stream in 3rd year and got a 1.1 after literally scraping through the first 2 years.

In first year there are some subjects which you can do feck all work for and do grand in, like management and maybe maths if you've a natural knack for it. Then there are those that if you don't work at you'll more than likely fail hopelessly i.e. get 13% in Commercial law and fail 3 other subjects while you're at it.

If you did accounting for the LC, don't get too complacent or else you'll just get rusty at doing accounts etc. and fail accounting as well. Again personal experience.

Some of the projects you have to do in 2nd and 3rd year, might only be worth 20-30% of a subject but the amount of work you have to put into them is a bit of a joke. Two words: Airline simulation. Or another two words: Strategic Management, the most detested subject in final year.

To get through the first two years especially you have to be fairly certain that you want to become an accountant because it is hard to be motivated if you suddenly don't give a flying fuck about accounting or company law or whatever.

Saying that I managed to get through the first two years and was able to specialise in Finance in 3rd year and was determined to get something out of the car crash 3 years I spent in DCU, hence the 1.1. I was very lucky that 1st and 2nd year don't contribute anything to your final degree grade.

Overall don't completely slack off in first year but don't go to the other extreme and memorise commercial case law backwards in Aramaic and you'll be fine.

    Any other questions, feel free.

I just finished in May too but stuck with the accounting in the final year.

I think it was manageable, got 2.1s the whole way through without overly stretching myself. I'm finding the masters fairly demanding now though.

I'm in 2nd year and found first year grand. The amount of work i have to put in compared to some of my mates in engineering is minuscule. The projects are a bit time consuming but not all that difficult.
