The soundtrack for Final Fantasy XII was pretty average. The other 4 nominees deserve it a lot more.

For story and character Okami should walk away with it. The other games haven't the makings of a story or character between them.

    Action and adventure
God of War 2 (SCE Santa Monica Studio)
    Love this game.

    Artistic achievement
    Heavenly Sword (Ninja Theory)
Looked bautiful, pity the gameplay and longevity of the game were'nt better.

    Best game
    BioShock (2K Boston/2K Australia)
Have'nt enjoyed and FPS as much in a while.

    Casual
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)
    Great crack.

    Gameplay
    Gears of War (Epic Games)

    Innovation
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)

    Multiplayer
    Battlefield 2142 (EA Dice)
the only one i've really played.

    Original score
God of War 2 (SCE Santa Monica Studio)
Agree with retro on FF12, possibly one of the weakest FF scores so far.

    Sports
MotorStorm (SCE External Development Studio & Evolution)
First racing game i've played and enjoyed since formula 1 97. BTW wtf was PES. Fifa 08 was'nt half bad for once.

    Strategy and simulation
    World in Conflict (Massive Entertainment)
    absoluelty breathtaking RTS.

    Story and character
God of War 2 (SCE Santa Monica Studio)
GOW2, because i was reading a book about Greek gods and titan around the same time. Liked the heavenly sword story too. FFXII's story was meh.

    Technical achievement
God of War 2 (SCE Santa Monica Studio)
For the game to look so good on a lower platform was amazing, Looks even more amazing when upscaled on the PS3.

    Use of audio
    Gears of War (Epic Games)

BAFTA One’s To Watch Award (in association with Dare to Be Digital)
    ?

The PC World Gamers Award (voted for by the public)
    Gears of War (Epic Games)

Here's what i think should win:

    Action and adventure
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
Not the best zelda game but any zelda is better than the rest of the games on the list.

    Artistic achievement
    Okami (Clover(Capcom))
Looked gorgeous and unique despite being on outdated hardware. Bioshock could win it but Okami deserves it more.

    Best game
    BioShock (2K Boston/2K Australia)

    Caual
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)
What a stupid category. Wii sports is the best out of the lot if I had to choose.

    Gameplay
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
Really should win outright here especially considering the competition.

    Innovation
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)
Wonderful use of the Wiimote and great for getting non-gamers to play games. Doesn't get better than that.

    Multiplayer
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)
It's the game I've been getting the most fun out of multiplayer from.

    Original score
    Okami (Clover (Capcom)
FFXII shouldn't even be considered. Okami pips Viva Pinata for having the more original score.

    Sports
    Wii Sports (Nintendo)
Don't normally like sports games so this is the only one I've been playing.

    Strategy and simulation
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (Ubisoft Studios (Montreal))
Just so Wii sports doesn't walk away with everything. I'd be hard pushed to call it a simulation. It was however a cracking game and much better than Gears of War which was nominated in more categories

    Story and character
    Okami Clover (Capcom)
Deserves to win this outright. FFXII had an awful story, God of War had a poor story especially compared to it's predessecor, the Darkness was a load of ****e especially in story terms and I don't know what the **** Simpsons is on that list for.

    Technical achievement
    Okami (Clover(Capcom)
Gears of War may be the best looking game out at the moment butOkami really did squeeze every once out of the aging PS2 hardware which is more of a technical achievement for me.

    Use of audio
    Gears of War (Epic Games)
The soundtrack was too bold for a silly game that GoW is but the gun fire and sounds of battle were excellent.

BAFTA One’s To Watch Award (in association with Dare to Be Digital)
None of them, haven't heard of any of them. Why isn't MGS4 on this list?

The PC World Gamers Award (voted for by the public)
Out of them all Gears of War is the best game but that isn't saying much.

Because it's One's to watch in terms of people and teams entering the industry, not actual games.
I was in this years Dare to be Digital, and of the three, i want Bear Go Home to win, but i think it'll be Ragnarawk

And for those who are curious

    Ragnarawk
    Bear go home
    ClimActic

    My Votes:

    Action and adventure
    Crackdown (Realtime Worlds)
I am not biased towards this product in any way.

    Artistic achievement
    Heavenly Sword (Ninja Theory)
Easily the nicest looking game I've played.

    Best game
    BioShock (2K Boston/2K Australia)
I'd have picked Portal if it was available. Or Crackdown, obviously.

    Casual
    SingStar (SCE London Studio)
Always fun in groups, though I'm not sure what one was out specifically this year. Don't like any of the other choices too much, my fingers don't get on with guitar hero.

    Gameplay
    Crackdown (Realtime Worlds)
I feel sorry for the games that have to compete with this juggernaught of awesomeness.

    Innovation
    Okami (Clover(Capcom))
I wouldn't call it innovative, but of the choices it's the best. Again, Portal should have won this hands down. (I probably shouldn't vote so soon after finishing Portal)

    Multiplayer
    Crackdown (Realtime Worlds)
Who needs lots of players when you can have two!

    Original score
    Okami (Clover (Capcom))
I haven't played all the choices but nothing there stood out to me. FFXII was nowhere near usual FF quality. I'd have nominated Folklore for this.

    Sports
    FIFA 08 (EA Chicago)
The game's come on in leaps and bounds, easy choice.

    Strategy and simulation
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (Ubisoft Studios (Montreal))
Again an easy choice. Thanks to brilliant AI and squad mechanics, R6:V managed to do the impossible and make me really enjoy a single player FPS for its gameplay rather than endure it for its story.

    Story and character
    Heavenly Sword (Ninja Theory)
I don't think I've played a game that made me care about certain characters so much since FFVII or Suikoden 2. And that was ten years ago.

    Technical achievement
    Crackdown (Realtime Worlds)
I can only imagine how technically amazing RTW's next game will be when they build on this technology!

    Use of audio
    Crackdown (Realtime Worlds)
Crackdown uses audio in a much more meaningful way than Elite Beat Agents. Really.

BAFTA One’s To Watch Award (in association with Dare to Be Digital)
    Bear Go Home (Phoenix Seed)
The art in this is the nicest. Ragnarawk is probably the more interesting concept, but I haven't bothered actually playing any of them.

The PC World Gamers Award (voted for by the public)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (Rockstar Leeds)
Wow. I can't believe I'm voting for this, but of the bunch available it's the best choice. Why FIFA 07 and not FIFA 08? Although voting for a FIFA game would also be wrong.

Interesting, nominees. I wonder how the wii will stand out against the tough competition - it only seems to have innovation over the rest.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,388 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Well for me there's no denying that Wii sports is a brilliant party game and very innovative and Twilight Princess is far better than almost all the games nominated.

Some of those I don't think deserve to win, but they were the only option on the list I'd played. Also left out some categories where I hadn't played any.

Looks awfully like LocoRoco to me

Looks awfully like LocoRoco to me

it's kinda like locoroco in you don't have direct control over the chracter, but the way in which you interact with the game is quite a bit apart from locoroco.
