In fairness, why on EARTH would you get one of these over the tried and trusted 70/80-200 2.8 zooms that both nikon and canon have (in VR and IS flavours respectively) ?? Given that when they're announced I can guarantee they'll be vastly more expensive than the 2.8 pro zooms ? Half (or a third ?) of a stop for a huge increase in price .. weight .. and a vast DECREASE in flexibility ? I mean, ok, stick a 2x TC on them and they're a 4.0 400 prime (or sort of a prime at least) but I think you're sacrficing more than you're gaining ...

Yeah, I couldn't see a reason to buy the 200mm f/2 when I have the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L. But, that 800mm .... hmmmmmm  Mind you, I'd probably need to remortgage my place to afford it.

The 800mm exists already, but AFAIK you have to order them directly through Canon. The price I saw quoted was upwards of 50k, as they have to build the lens for you. They generally don't advertise it as the price is somewhat frightening, and to the best of my knowledge Sports Illustrated have two and National Geographic own one.

    See the Press Release...

I never knew the "L" stood for "Luxury". :o

L quality primes to be very honest - There's a lot very special about them.

    Plus, it's gear porn. ;)
