I want to source a sniper and have been viewing my option's. What I have set my sights on is the Tanaka made series of rifles.

Now heres my problem, it seems inside of Japan they are sitting at the 320 fps mark, but in every shop I can find they sell the unlocked version that shoots at 400fps+. Now these unlocked versions can with the change of a dial be limited to below 320 fps, but I am unsure as to how my fellow airsofters would take a rifle that can be made hot in about 1 second.

Can anybody find a site that sells limited versions of the Tanka Gas powered rifles?

NOIP has a gas powered M40A1 which I think is a Tanaka get a hold of him and ask about the gas mechanism because he seems to know how it works and will be able to help.

Mark is right. A firearm is ....capable of firing with a muzzle energy of over 1J. The Japanese version will probably be tricky to obtain because now the UKs out there is no need to export them. Unless you can buy from the uk...

    http://www.wolfarmouries.co.uk/airsoft/bb/product.asp?page=product&id=M40A1SWST

Thats the Jap version, do wolf ship outside the UK?

Why not get a spring rifle? There cheape, accurate, insanely reliable. I'd reccomend you look out for a good second hand one, especially an upgraded one.

    :D:p:D

Because 300 for what is essentially a springer is a bit steep. That and I plan to buy in a month, I'm cash strapped at the moment. Damm airsoft keeping the low paid man down.

I wouldn't say 300 is that expensive for a good spring sniper rifle. I'll be looking at 400 for a Dragunov spring. Having used airsoft guns from dirt cheap to quite expensive I have to say you'll see where the money goes when you pay more... usually :p

Krazy first of all let me say congratulations on your excellent taste in rifles :D

Now in relation to the legality issue, regardless of whether or not a rifle is "easily" upgradable (ease is subjective, just ask KDouglas how easy it is to change a spring) once it is under the 1 Joule mark it is perfectly legal to own. As far as I am aware all new Tanakas no longer have the PCS are sold shooting under 1J but to be on the safe side contact the seller before you buy and ask them to test the rifle and provide a letter stating the fps.

Now finally for your own sake avoid buying from Wolf, they tend to be way over priced.

well that all depends, it can range anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 mins, depending on the aeg in question

swapping a spring constitutes modification of the aeg and is generally not possible to do in the field, whereas a dial that can just be turned to up the gas pressure is a little too easy for my liking

Trust me man having stripped the Tanaka (and spending a solid hour looking for the teeny tiny screw that flew across the room) it wouldn't be too easy to tune it "in the field". I ended up removing the trigger assembly and taking the barrel (bolt and all) out of the stock just so I could look at the PCS.

I'm not a fan of hot rifles, all my AEGs are stock and shooting below 1J and I'll guarantee the Tanaka is too. The beauty of the PCS is that if I'm skirmishing the M40A1 and its cronos way below 1J (cold weather and gas rifles) it can be adjusted to get that little bit closer to 320. That said I can understand your uneasiness but just remember if you think someone is using a hot rifle report it to a marshal they can crono it and get things sorted.

Flatmate has one, spent most of last Saturday using it(guy in brown hoody/young looking as Boston put it). Its ok, but has less range then most AEG's and no accuracy outside of 30 feet. Inside of 20 feet, I don't plan on using it.

There is a scout version of the aug, now thats a gun to get.
    G8HB0596_01.jpg
With a Tight bore this wil give you accuracy and ROF! Think UNComp do a custom one.
