I want to connect a 49e keystation to my computer with a midi lead. I have an m audio delta sound card. Will any keyboard to computer midi lead do?

Any five-pin standard MIDI cable will do the trick.

Or you could just consider hooking it up via USB. That would also save you having to plug in a power adapter for the keystation.

ah crud, thought that would be the case with the power. The usb port seems to be damaged after an accident involving a short fall and bump. Im looking to connect it into the back of the computer so what measurement should I be looking for on the other end of the lead with the rectangular thing?

The lead with the rectangular thing is a USB cable. This is no good to you if the usb jack on the keyboard is broken. The same thing happened with my keystation 49e oddly enough!

Just get a 5 pin MIDI cable as mentioned above, plus a universal power supply (around 10 euro from Maplin) and you'll be sorted.

cool, cool, I meant the lead with the 5 pin on one end for the port on the keyboard and the usb on the other to plug into the computer. I used one of them with a digital piano way back to connect it to the computer

Haven't heard of those leads - they're probably specific to whatever hardware you got it with. USB and MIDI are completely different and incompatible protocols, you'll have to stick with a 5pin-5pin MIDI lead.

I see, the lead Im looking for is one of these

Are they compatible with m audio delta soundcards? And is there an exact size definition for the rectangular pins?

I don't see why you would need those rectangular connectors, they've nothing to do with USB. Both the keystation and the soundcard take standard round 5-pin connectors as illustrated in my post above. If you are referring to something like the black lead that is illustrated below:

then that is needed in addition to the 5 pin lead. It comes with the soundcard.
