Hole in One

Had the fortune to score a hole-in-one the weekend before last at Bellewstown golf course (second hole, for those of you who are familiar with it)

I was happy enough with that feat in itself but when I told a friend during the week he said I should have gone into the clubhouse to tell them afterwards and that I could have a plaque put up on the wall or something?

    Is this correct?

Iknow the custom is to buy everyone on the clubhouse a drink (Bellewstown has no bar so I got away with that one!) but had never heard about the plague? I've been playing for about 15 years and have seen other holes in one but have never heard of the plaque thing.

The insurance in our club covers a bar tab of €300 if you get a hole in one! Now thats incentive if I ever heard it.

I'd doubt it about the plaque. If they had a plaque up for everyone that got a hole in one there'd be a lot of plaques! The one plaque our place is for a guy who got an Ablatross.

    Well done by the way!

Yeah, I've asked a few people and they've not heard of it either. I'll settle for the card framed and the ball mounted on a little stand - both of which will be displayed prominently in the sitting room forever!

you will only get that if you did it in official competition.

    society/practice golf does not count.

Never mind a plaque. You'd be lucky to get a grunt out of that grumpy f***er behind the counter in Bellewstown. If ever there was someone who needed a personality injection..........

Well done on the HIO! I managed a flukey eagle on the 14th the other day after pitching in from 80 yards out. Was delighted with myself but a hole in one is a great feeling indeed. Congrats!

No hole-in-one but deuced the par-three sixth in Killeen today for the first time. Playing about 190yds in wet windy conditions. Rescue Club to about 4ft... Had made two nice putts on the previous two holes and the greens were in lovely nick - a little slow maybe cos of the rain - so there was only ever one place that damned little white ball was going!

Don't have many deuces, so was fairly pleased with myself :)

I have never seen it before in a club in Ireland but you see it alot in other countries i think it should be done in this country.

If you had mentioned it on the day you might have been hit for a big bar bill.

I'm reading Sandy Lyle's autobiography at the moment and he talks about what you have to do in japan if you get a hole in one... some crazy stuff, like buy all your family and friends an engraved clock to commemorate the occasion and you have to present the golf club with a willow tree... can't remember the rest but it's all pretty mad.
