    Folks

I have had someone working on my car and the muppet has managed to break the bonnet opening system. The key will turn in the lock but it will not unlock the bonnet or let me open it. Does anyone know how I can possibly fix this issue?

    Shane

Try pushing the key in as far as you can - push on the grill to help you a bit.

If this doesn't work, your best bet is to bring it to a ford garage, they are a bit of a b!tch to open and impossible without a lift

Tried that, also tried getting garage to sort it out but they are fully booked yet I go to the UK on Thursday for the weekend!

Focus Mk1 or Mk2? A similar thing happened on our Focus MK2. There is a flimsy plastic rod between the lock and the latch, this often breaks or detaches and the bonnet can't be opened. However if you take off the undertray under the front bumper (about 8 screws and a few clips) you can reach up and may be able to reattach the rod. Or if it's broken but part of it is still attached to the latch you may be able to turn it by hand.

Sounds like a Mk 2 its a 2006 year model car, how hard is it to detach the front bumper?

I could only see 2 screws on one side and none on the other :S

2006 would be a Mk2 alright. IIRC it was about 8 screws holding on the undertray but there may have been less :) They are all easily accessible anyway. You only take off the tray under the bumper, not the bumper itself

Ford don't sell the little plastic rod seperately. They will only sell a "kit" which includes various other parts of the bonnet release as well. I think it's about 35 euro for this kit

€35 i can live with if i can get my bonnet working, whats annoying me is the fact that he snipped some wires which means my main beams dont work atm (dipped do fine)

The bonnet will surely be covered under your manufacturer warranty anyway. I don't think it was your mechanics fault that it broke. But snipping wires and leaving you without main beams was a bit dopey :)

Put it this way theres a lot of kicking of arses and screaming going on over it. It was supposed to be fixed today but the clown involved was too tired to fix it but said to drop it over tomorrow even though he knows I am unavailable tomorrow (Night shift tonight so sleeping till midday and working again at 2) which gives **** all time to get over to him and back again.

We managed to remove the front grille and had a good poke about twisting the knob etc with no joy so im going to have to try to get it into and out of the garage as quick as possible during the week!

    Folks,
Sorry for dragging up an old thread but we have the same problem. Does anyone know what the plastic rod is called? Might look on eBay for one once I know what it's called.

You can't buy the rod separately to the best of my knowledge. Just go into a Ford dealer and buy the kit with the rod included. You won't save much buying off ebay when postage is taken into account.

You might need Ford to install it as most non Ford mechanics wouldn't have a clue how to make up the key barrel for it.

If it is just the rod that is broken you can just put the new rod on the old lock. No need to fit the new barrel as well.
