Why is there Che Guevara posters plastered to walls here in Kilkenny? What kind of utter human garbage would praise and celebrate that murderer?

The problem is during the year i see people wearing Che Guevara T-shirts [sadly one of my cousins has one] I can't believe people would idolize that piece of ****. He was worse than the people he wanted to overthrow. I had a pen on me and wrote "F this murderer" Thankfully people were trying to tear them down.

Somewhere in Hell Sadam Hussein is sayin to Guevara "Who's your PR assitant? I want the liberal trash to remeber me as fondly as they rmemebr you."

It was the 40th anniversary of his death last week. Roll on the 50th

I'm glad I'm not the only person who doesn't get what the fuss is about. I think for a lot of youngsters, buying the Che Guevara t-shirt or poster is one of those hackneyed things they do during their teenage years. Most of them grow out of it when they get a bit of sense. I wonder is it the graphic image that's the attraction rather than the story of the man himself.

Thanks Firetrap. I thought I would be the only one against the glorification of this piece of garbage. I knew Ireland was full of liberals but I didn't think they were low enough to celebrate Che Guevara and treat him like he's some kind of hero and yet will villify George W. Bush for trying to protect the US.

Because liberals like to think they know everything. A 2 minute search on wikipedia would tell them Guevara isn't this saint they are trying to make him out to be. Hell I just saw one idiot outside Dunnes wearing an Osama BinLaden t-shirt.

I was thinking to myself "Are Europeans that Anti-American that they will glorify even BinLaden?"

Sorry again Nightwish. I just can't for the life of understand why a grown man would want to wear a BinLaden T-shirt or a Guevara one [There was one at Church this morning wearing one and he was doing the offertory collections]

Personally I'd find your form of expression as irritating, if not more so , than what you chose to get all heated up about .

I can see you have many battles to fight so will leave you to it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,987 ✭✭✭JohnMc1

Oh No Messiah wants to play the holier than thou bit again. I wouldn't be surprised if you put some of those posters up considering in a thread a few months back you were defending Muslims.

I guarantee if Al-Quada or any Muslim groups flew planes into buildings here in Ireland you wouldn't be happy about an Irish man wearing an Osama t-shirt or any other Terrorist like Guevara either.

Just because the Irish govt want to play the nice guy doens't mean Ireland is safe. Not by a long shot.

    laughable

delusional and paranoia springs to mind
I wouldn't be surprised if you put some of those posters up considering in a thread a few months back you were defending Muslims

You do understand Islam is a religion , and as such is as defendable as any other ? maybe you are confusing the small word muslim with more difficult long words like fundamentalist, or extremist, or terrorist?

You've already confused art and pop culture with politics etc.

I'd find wearing a Che t-shirts more understandable (iconic imagery and all that ) that those people who pay Nike/ Jack & Jones etc for clothing only to walk around like a free advertising billboard

Tell the families of victims of 9-11 that Muslims aren't terrorists and see what happens. I guarantee if there was a 9-11 here you would be singing a diffent tune.

This is laughable.a Guevara or BinLaden shirt is not art its being pure white trash. The idea of the comparing wearing clothing depicting the images of terroists to a NIke logo or clothing line logo is reaching in your defense.

Wake up and join us in the real world. Supporting people like that is disgusting and inexcusable.

tbh, i agree and think its rubbish that people celebrate che guavera so much. more than 50% think that just because they know hes a revolutionist and his l name is Ernesto, that they understand everything he did and everything he stood for. in my books, hes a false idol, and his ideology exists only because his name has become symbolized with rebellion, and therefore with "rebellious" little twats

So by that logic, Catholics are terrorists too. And Protestants. And probably every religion going as well as atheism, agnosticism, etc.

Erm, do you want me to move this to the humanities forum? Or maybe politics, religion, etc etc?

Having spent some time living in a muslim country (and indeed some in Israel), I think tarring all muslims with the terrorist brush is utterly stupid. I say this as an atheist. I don't respect their religion or any other, but I respect their right to believe in whatever they want.

Where does the Koran say this? In actual fact, the Koran expressly forbids the killing of innocents. And no, not just innocent Muslims, but others too.

Its not. Nearly every terrorist attack that occurs is commited by Muslims. I cannot count how many times Mosques have been searched and bombs and guns were found. If Muslims don't like being tarred with the terrorist brush THEY need to change how everybody else views them.

Hmmm...nearly all bomb attacks in Northern Ireland during the troubles were committed by Catholics, if Catholics don't like being searched everytime or treated like **** by the english when they go across the border, fly or get the boat to the UK then Catholics need to change the way people view them.

Now what problems do we see with the above comparison?

Ah yes, a small group of people causes the issue, so because of this we end up with lots of ignorant bastards taring all that religion/people the same.....fair...of course not, but its what ignorant bastards do :)

Going on the past I guess it means every Irish Catholic is a car bomber and a member of the IRA, just like every Muslin must be a terrorists......now it all makes perfect sense ...sigh....

I will laugh in your face when the car bombs start and buildings start getting up here. And I will ask you point blank: "Still want to defend them?" because if you think Ireland is immune because you want to play the bleeding heart and hand your country over to anyone you are the ignorant bastard.

    I'm sorry?
Please quote and point out exactly where I said or even hinted to the fact that Ireland might be immune to anything....whats that?...you can't find anything...amazing because I never did.

Now what your doing is changing the subject so lets get back on track, if for example car bombs by terrorists went off in Dublin I unlike you will not tar the whole religion with the same brush.

Its obvious JohnMc1 you have some issues and I recommend you get professional help.

In this day and age it may only lead you into trouble, at the end of the day it only takes one drink to many for you to turn all your internal rage into you beating up some innocent muslin on the street because you believe he's part of some terrorist cell

Answer me this, yes or no answer...Do you think its fair to tar all Irish catholics as IRA terrorists due to IRA bombings?

I'm also looking forward to your comments in relation to my post here - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=54220504&postcount=25

Lets see if you can actually add something useful to humanity :)

Wtf are you blathering on about? Please stop implying that " muslims" are terrorists. You keep appologising for generalising yet you continue to do it. Some might also consider attacks on Iraq by the U.S. military that result in the death of innocents to be terrorist attacks. Does this give people the right to call American's terrorists? Of course not. So please refrain from calling "muslims" terrorists in future. Frankly its offensive.

There was a 9-11 here, it was called "Omagh", and it was carried out by Catholics.

    Therefore Catholics = Terrorists

That's what George Bush was trying to do. I'm glad someone explained that to me as I had no idea what he was doing. (I honestly didn't think he knew what he was doing either).

The Che Guevara thing is the romantic notion of the revolutionary. The Ned Kelly syndrome (not directly comparing the two btw).

I'm a liberal in the general sense of the word and you're really starting to irritate me. I've never glorified any killers or killings or wars, you'll find its 'conservatives' that do that. You use the word liberal like an insult but the fact is your sweeping generalisations mean feck all.

A lot of Europeans are anti American foreign policy and let's be honest their actions have caused, directly and indirectly, the deaths of a very large number of people. Numbers that no doubt Bin Laden would be proud of.

Isn't the image of Guevara a famous Andy Warhol image? I've a couple of friends who have it on t-shirts and it's nothing to do with politics. It's an artists statement. He also did a pretty cool one of chairman Mao, but the t-shirt industry was apparently slow on the uptake (probably because most of the t-shirts are made in China :D ).

Strange how an Andy Warhol picture has spawned a debate about racism. Meh, I say! Meh!
