The attached diagram should help. It's from another thread on the forum (somewhere). It's based on having a set-top box for cable or MMDS but it's the same for satellite anyway.

Many thanks for the diagram, have tried it out this morning and nothing is working. I cannot see where the problem is, if the the receiver is left on i cannot use the dvd set up menu as it automatically tunes to the AV where the satellite is. can only see dvd menu when receiver is switched on stand by. The booklet with dvd is not clear as where to put the cable ( i know where i'd like to put it!). Have tried all combinations with the leads and cannot figure it out.

Please help, as i am ready to chuck the whole lot out into the field.

    Thanx

I have it set up this way at home. The DVD recorder/VCR should take precedence over the digibox and you should see the AV feed jump as it changes.

Powering on the aux device should loop it though the digibox and make it output on the same AV channel.

Have you enabled scart switching on your digibox? Is the DVD recorder outputting in RGB? Just did a quick search -- I think there can be issues if it isn't.

Use the main Scart socket at the back of the DVD recorder (AV1/EXT1/Scart1). If it's in the secondary socket, it wont be able to override the Skybox.

How do you enable scart switching? dvd doesn't output in RGB, can only see dvd in av-1 when receiver is on stand by: switch receiver on and dvd goes. Sat signal is on RGB also. Thanx

On the Skybox, Press Services, and go to System Setup, then Picture Settings.

Third option down is Scart control.

Does your TV only have 1 scart socket?

tv has one scart socket which is connected up to receiver, the receiver is Strong 6130 fta satellite

Right, I had thought it was a Skybox, not a FTA box.

On the Strong remote, is there a button that says TV/Sat? Not sure about the Strong's but on some FTA boxes, pressing it once puts it in TV mode, and again puts it in VCR mode.

Try that button to you see how you get on (if DVD player is on beforehand, it should come up when you press the TV/Sat button).

    Actually, ignore above for now..

    Go to System Setup menu.
    Go to TV/VCR Settings
    Go down to VCR Scart
Is this set to STB? If so, change it to Auto. If set to STB, the satbox will always have control of the scart.

    Instruction Manual

If this doesn't work, try my previous post (I think the TV/Sat button is labelled AV on the Strong)

it's the other way around, if recorder is on and satelite is switched on it overrides recorder. When i put receiver on stand by and press av i can find recorder. I have scart leads going from receiver-tv and receiver-dvd. The tv has built-in dvd player if that makes a difference. Appreciating the help, have never had this many probs hooking up stuff.

I'm pretty sure one of my above answers should fix your problem. Otherwise there's a fault somewhere.

I don't have have a scart option on the menu, only vcr. I have tried everything, the only way for the dvd to override sat is to put scart in the tv output at back of recorder, and it doesn't find sat signal. I am stumped.

Well, it's the TV Scart at the back of the Recorder that you should be using, as you're doing.

To record off satellite what you'd need to do is select AV1/EXT1 on your Recorder as that's where the satellite box is connected to.

Are other cable(s) connected correctly as shown in the first reply? This is as its shown in the sat guide but its not picking up sat signal when scanning through? Thanks

    Seems right.

Scart cable from Recorder Scart1(TV output) to Strong VCR Scart

Scart cable from Strong TV Scart to the Television

    Now, Strong has control.
When you turn on the Recorder, it will take over control. Then, with the Recorder remote, select AV1 (or equivalent, eg INPUT) and you should be able to record from the Strong.

The only other alternative I can see is do a swaparound.

Scart lead from Recorder AV1 (TV Out) to Television.

Scart lead from Strong AV1 (TV Output) to Recorder's Scart 2 (Decoder).

So basically it's wired Satellite to Recorder to TV. This way, RGB most likely won't work and may need to be changed in the Strong menu.

right, i think we have all leads correct! Ok, when recorder is in in initial set-up mode, i select langauge and country and then it starts to scan, but it's not picking up sat receiver pic when it's scanning, it's only picking up mushy grren background. Thanx ( glad you guys aren't charging by the hour)

Uhm, it'll not find ANYTHING via the scan, as you're connected using a Scart lead!

The scan is only for the analogue tuner (where an aerial cable plugs into).

To record from your satellite, you need to use your recorder remote and press AV/EXT/Input (whatever it's called on your remote) until you see the satellite onscreen. Then you may record.

That does make sense, and i did think of that, so if im only recording off the satelllite do I still need to connect the cables? Can only get satellite sig on tv and have no other irish channels. If this is daft question I apologise!

If all you have is satellite, only worry about the Scart leads.

I know some recorders force you to go through the initial scan, even if no aerial is connected. Not really a problem, you just have to sit through the scan.

Last question i promise. Can flick bewtween tv and recorder but get the following:
    Tuner no sig
    Scart no sig
    CVBS no sig
    Front s-video no sig

Am giving up now and will have another go tomorrow.

    Cheers for all your help.

Well, it finally dawned on me late last night that the scart leads were not connected up properly, I didn't have the receiver one in the recorder and recorder to tv so now finally have signal and can record. Thanks Byte and Ethernet for all your help!

Would putting one of those three way scart switcher box's in help. They usually have a ''record input A to Input B'' facillity as well.

It probably would work, but shouldn't be neccessary.
