I'm hoping to start back at some hill-walking and would like a recommendation on what is the best option for a tracksuit bottom/trousers. I want something that will be warm without causing me to sweat. I don't neccessarily need waterproof as I have a decent pair of light waterproofs.

What is the best material to have on the inside of the pants?

Personally i like to layer my clothes, so if i was going out hill-walking I normally wear a pair of thermal leggings either directly underneath my water proofs or underneath a pair of soft trousers like combats or regular tracksuits or something. Honestly a lot of it comes to personal preference. Mind you even if its warm i usually throw my thermals into my bag as they are really light and the weather can be quite changeable. You can get hiking trousers in the like of great outdoors and patagonia in town though they are not in my opinion an necessity

For trousers - anything except cotton or denim. Places like Pennys have good synthetic material trousers which are good for walking on dry days.

I used to do a lot of hillwalking, and found cotton combats to be good. Shorts are better usually
You definitely should stay away from denim. Jeans cling to you if you sweat or get wet.
