    Hi all,

What is the correct attire for a gent attending the opera? Im guessing its not jeans and t shirts? smart casual? Would a suit be over dressed? Slacks and shirt with no tie? What would you suggest. Any feedback appreciated.

    Thanks

the attire expected at the opera is becoming more relaxed (thank god)...smart jeans and an open neck shirt, suit and open shirt or shirt with tie. smart casual unless opening or closing nights generally(a lot of people go black tie but its really not neccessary in my opinion),because most other people dress up and make a night of it.if its a friday night and you're attending with a partner or whatever, no one would blink if you got dressed up a little... its really up to you because i think there is an effort to make opera a more inviting experience and not just one for the hoi polloi :)
