NTL Digital installation

I got NTL digital installed yesterday. Installer arrived on time, no problems there. I wasn't in, but he told my wife that some channels weren't showing up, but they'd come on stream later. By the time I got home it was after 8pm and had to wait until this morning to get through to Technical Support as there was no sign of these missing channels 'coming on stream'. Before I left for work this morning I got through to Tech support and a nice lady did something over the network and asked me to unplug the box. Then she asked me to plug it back in again and go into help and press the yellow reset button. Did all this but still have only about 10 channels. 2 RTE's, TV3, Ch 6, Setanta Ireland then it jumps to TMF and Bubble Hits. If I try to watch any other channel it says 'To subscribe ring 1800 321 321' (New number is 1908). I am on the Max pack. Anyone else come across a similar quandary? I'm not looking forward to ballsing around with this tonight when I get home from work. Is it regular for channels to 'come on stream' at a later time, it sounds like baloney to me.

So you have Irish channels plus a couple and two music stations one of which Bubble is Irish. Interesting. (wonder what the TMF link might be?)

Sounds like something has'nt been "ticked" at thier end, so non-Irish channels can be received.

    Mike.

I thought something like that was wrong, but I'm not getting TG4 either. Plus I get Euronews in 6 or 7 languages. I receive all the Radio Stations including the BBC's, Classic FM etc.

I don't think they have activated your digital max account yet because my neighbour had the max pack but got rid of it and all the girl from NTL did was cancel the channels from her computer and when my neighbour went through the channels on the box and everyone of them except the channels you listed were displaying 'You have not subscribed to this channel please call....' so I'd say it could be somethin like that.

Box wasn't provisioned. Installer shouldn't have gone anywhere till all the stations came through. If the women couldn't do it over the phone it's sounds like the box won't take it, full stop. Probably a faulty box. Get installer back, he didn't do his job properly.

The box is faulty, has RTE1 come on? If so it means the box is faulty and will need to be swapped out, happens sometimes.

I rang Tech Support yesterday evening and a guy arrived this morning, you are all correct above. The channels I have are starter channels. He tried swapping 3 boxes and he rang to have them activated, no joy. He suspects that people activating boxes at base are not as experienced as they should be. He ran out of boxes and will liaise with colleagues to see if anyone else has any spares, if not he'll be back Monday. Can't fault this installer he has done everything possible so far, he has to ring the same number as you or I to wait to get through to Tech Support!

Staff ring a different number but sometimes it takes a while to get an answer. Busy folks on the other end. Check your pm's.

I had this problem when I got a Saturday morning install. NTL phone "support" fobbed me off with several excuses and three lies culminating in my need for an engineer. Whoa and behold I got home on Monday and it was working.

Ensure you get compensated for the days it didn't work and try to get the install fee waived.

Problem was sorted this morning. Nothing wrong with boxes but the account was not set up correctly.

I was fed some tripe like that. I don't know if it's a system thing or someone who is lazy or what. I hope you've called up to demand compensation. :)

Having the exact same problem here myself. Engineer came this morning but I've only got a few channels. Tech support say it's a backlog in activation that's causing the problem.
The technicians do ring the same number as customers, he had his phone on loudspeaker and was on hold with that annoying music for 10 minutes!

NO THEY DON'T. The company phone system has the same "on hold" music no matter what number they ring. Customers are ringing Limerick call centre, techs are onto Eastpoint.

That's one of the excuses I got. I'd love to know what the actual reason is. I doubt they still have such a backlog. If they do they need a serious systems upgrade.
