I've just picked up the A8 (5-speed tiptronic) after having the ATF and filter changed. I think that falls into the same category as the long service intervals- believe it to your detriment

Yeah I'd well believe it. I have seen it many times before. Anywhere where there is friction there will be a build up of heat and despite the fact these transmissions are really a hydraulic unit there are weareable plates and bands within, so the stuff has to go somewhere !

Have you noticed and change in the way it drives ?
