ATF - A Cautionary Tale

I've just picked up the A8 (5-speed tiptronic) after having the ATF and filter changed. Although Audi describe the gearbox as 'sealed-for-life', i'd read enough stories on the internet regarding transmission failure to convince me to do it. And am I glad I did, the fluid that came out of it was black. I know a couple of you have been on the fence about this for a while, as indeed was I. If you saw what came out of my car after less than 60,000 miles, though...

I think that falls into the same category as the long service intervals- believe it to your detriment

Yeah I'd well believe it. I have seen it many times before. Anywhere where there is friction there will be a build up of heat and despite the fact these transmissions are really a hydraulic unit there are weareable plates and bands within, so the stuff has to go somewhere !

Have you noticed and change in the way it drives ?
