    Hi have a question

Starts off with me being stupid so anyone can start their answer with 'you should never do that' and Ill agree!!

Anyway we got a recommendation for an architect from a friend who quoted us a price for the planning drawings. This all went fine and we paid in cash for this (got no receipt)

We then got a quote for the electrical/mechanical drawings and went ahead with that...got the drawings and handed them to engineer who did structural drawings. At that time we hadnt paid for them and they had been terrible about getting back to us so we just waited til they got in touch. They just got back to us saying we owe them an amount for the elec/mech drawings which is over twice what he actually quoted us and we are flabbergasted and dont know what to do!

There is no contract, nothing in writing anywhere. I am so stressed by it i feel like negotiating an interim price just so he pisses off but yet i think he is just chancing his arm so am actually resistant to doing this as we would not have paid this price up front. Am thinking of just sending a cheque for agreed amount and letting them chase it up if they want....but kind of dont want the stress of it hanging over our heads

First time we have ever built anything and are hyper stressed by this, just want this guy to get lost!!! Any advice?

Don't stress about it. If you agreed a figure then that is that. Stick a cheque in the post for the agreed amount with a note pointing this out. Some times when its a verbal quote the person (architect in this case) may have forgotten the figure quoted and tcover himself he has added a bit on to be safe. If he does get stroppy about it the tell him that he is still only going to get the same but that you want a receipt for the first money you paid.

Dont worry about Im sure it will work out OK.

We then got a quote for the electrical/mechanical drawings and went ahead with that........................and letting them chase it
Christ I just love the puns :D
