Oh my god. That test is farcical. Seriously, I can't see how any reasonably able bodied person would fail to pass that.

well first off you do 3 laps of the circuit and you have to do it in under 3min 20, it's not as easy as it looks, also it's meant as a basic entry test, fitness is built on from there, with a month of swimming 5 days a week, a month of running and a month of self defence, and that's just in the timetabled classes, after 5 in the evening there's a gym to use,you have use of the swimming pool, and the instructors do spinning classes and circuit training.

So trust me when i say that the gardai coming out of templemore are prob the fittest in the force.I know my fitness has improved quite a bit since i started.

    What does this mean?

And since you're in the college, what happens if you are allergic to chlorine?

Spinning classes and circuit training are a standard part of Gardai training experience.

Curcuit training involves instrutcion in basic electronics and it builds up your resistance to electric shock. It comes in useful on the force if your in a pursuit situation and you come into contatc with exposed wiring.

The spinning class is one of the less enjoyable experiences of templemore. Your put on a roundabout like thing and all the members of your class spin it. Again it is supposed to build up your resistance to dizzyness/lightheadedness which you may find if your quickly weaving in and out of cowds in a pursuit.

thanks for your wonderful input babybing,

Circuit training, is where you do a circuit of exercises, for example you start with tricep dips, move on to a step up, then bicep curls, then push up etc etc,you do that for about 8 or 9 exercises, then when you get back to your starting point you do a little jog around the gym, take a 30 sec break and then go again for about 4 circuits. really works up a good sweat.

    as for spinning see here

I don't honestly know, but we do swimming with a view to life saving, so swimming is kinda necessary....if you can swim and can somehow demonstrate that you are proficient enough i presume you could get an exemption from that class, but that's just a guess.

If you're in the college now, can you maybe say it to the lecturer who is teaching you or whatever you do if you're not learning..

I don't know what part to ask and I do not want them asking me things basically.

chatmaster i remember u asking questions a good few pages back on the main garda thread regarding swimming it seems to me that u have a serious fear of water as most of your questions focussed on swimming

short answer is you'll need a letter from a doctor to prove that you are definately allergic to chlorine, then they may grant you am exemption(not guaranteed), you'll have to put it down on your medical history form for the medical.
