If you have even the slightest interest in videogames then you owe it to yourself to download and play this wonderful, wonderful game. It's not as good as the hype says it is, it's much better.

Will I need a classic controller to play this?

Yes but a GC controller works as well. Was up until 4 last night playing this. Forgot just how good the soundtrack was. It looks gorgeous in scart as well.

Retr0, would you say the GC pad is better for playing Metroid than the Classic, or worse?

Definitely worse. It doesn't feel right but is functional compared to other games like donkey kong country which are really annoying to use a GC pad for.

One of the best games ever. I really wish nintendo would make 2d metroid games again, even just for the ds, but untill then I still have both Castlevania's to keep me happy :)

This game is why I still play games.
That might seem like a bold statement, but for me it sums up everything that's right with the world of gaming, without bogging it down with pages of narrative or dull cut scenes. A perfect slice of pure gaming, and for me, the pinnacle of 2D games.

I love the way I can still remember all the little tricks, like
wall jumping to get the spazer beam a little bit earlier than normal
It's far easier than I remembered though...
Kraid took a grand total of 20 health off me, and even that could have been avoided if I'd been paying more attention... Crocomire was nowhere near as scary as I remember, in fact I find it hard to imagine that that ever made me jump out of my skin:p
Ah well, at least I've got Ridley to look forward to - that boss battle was always the most challenging of the game for me

Try wall jumping to get the Powerbombs as soon as you hit red brinstar :) I've been playing this again recently on the console. Hit 1 hour with about 20-30 mins to go. I know a lot of the tricks though ;) Mockball ftw.

    Look at this: http://files.filefront.com/SuperMetroid+TAS+24+Cpadofavi/;8742746;/fileinfo.html
Tool assisted but amazing. I always knew it'd be possible to skip the morph bomb fight (although you literally have 42 frames to do it, impossible to do on console.)

Spent some of last night playing this after buying it out of sheer boredom and to be perfectly honest... i had forgotten how much i enjoyed this game. I know it's a classic and all but i had thrown it (in my mind) with a lot of other 2D platformers that age horribly, i was wrong and after about a 6 year gap, i'm playing it again.

There isn't an *embarassed* emoticon large enough for me.

I've probably completed this game 50 times. Still play it now, just did a 1:25 completion. Not my fastest though. Couldn't get some of the tricks quick enough, and was too lazy to restart from a save.
