Hi i am just wondering if the phone should be storing all the data it has already searched for, because everytime I use it it is connecting to the net and costing me a fortune. Is it the phone or am I just a bit of a div

There are two parts to this answer :)

    1. Maps
First, start the Maps application and go into Network then set "Use network" to never. Basically, this stops the applications from downloading a) maps as it needs them and b) downloading updates to maps it already has (probably what's happening in your case!). Just make sure to use the Nokia Map Loader to pre-load your phone with all the maps you want. And as the Maps do get updated from time to time, use the delete option in the Map Loader software to first wipe all your existing maps, then load on the new updated ones.

    2. Assisted GPS
This is a new feature but *only* if the software on your phone is up to date. With it turned on the GPS gets a lock much faster (10 seconds as opposed to 60 seconds!). But, it does require your phone to get a small bit of data every 2nd or 3rd time you use the Maps programme (it appears to download 6k or so). So if you also don't want this additional cost, go into Menu, then Tools, Settings, General, Positioning, then Positioning Methods and UNTICK "Assisted GPS"
