To restrict a Hornet 250 or not?????

    Hi all, would I be mad to restrict a hornet 250? It makes about 38bhp.
    I know there is no prob with Garda, getting Ins cover or in vast majority of possible accidents but......if, for example, I trash into some pedestrian who stands in front of me, it is possible that my bike could be taken off an dynoed..and insurers would most likely not cover me. Pedestrian could end up in wheelchair or dead..and me in SERIOUS sh*t...am I being paranoid??
    I know tis only a small chance of such happening, much more likely for me to be on receiving end....Your esteemed advise most welcome...
    Also wonder if restricting hornet 250 would 'take the fun outta it' ?????????

    a new hornet, out of the factory makes 38hp... take yours to a dyno and see if it still does

    if not, sure its only 5hp - sounds like you need the peace of mind ;)

    Tanx Wossack, must say I never heard of anyone restricting a hornet 250, everyone (mates, bike shops, etc) reckon i'd be mad...some have offered a restriction cert (for a fee) if Im that worried..
    I do wonder though would restricting limit the revs and hence take away the fun? Not concerned bout top speed at all just acceleration..

    It wouldn't even make 38 at the wheel. Probably around 33/34 at the rear wheel.

    You'd be mental to restrict it :)
    I know 2 people with provo licenses, and aon didnt have a problem with insuring them on the hornet 250, without a restriction.

    yeah but the fact his licence only alows him 33bhp for 2 years,it would void his insurance.:confused:

    do it anyway!

    look at the amount of people riding bikes with aftermarket exhausts,i bet 99% never said it to their ins companys and at least some must have had crashes,so we would all know if they were stringent about declaring stuff.youll be grand dont bother restricting it.:)

    As has already been said, it will have a hard time producing more than 33hp at the rear wheel, and there's the power to weight ratio as well which can allow more hp than 33 if the bike's weight is high enough.

    The insurers don't care about exhausts, and rightly so. Plenty of them cause more holes in the powerband than anything else, unless it's set up carefully on a dyno...

    In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

    Thanks all. I HEAR ya..I know it's so close it's practically 33bhp but...I'm with Quinn and I believe in an accident they can be c*nts..check everything..but then again I suppose if it's a bad accident chances are it'll be me in hosp or dead..F*ck it - not goin for a restriction, will just watch out for jaywalkers..oh yeah I can get a restiction cert for bout €180 if I want??

    Don't bother. Anyone with a decent colour printer can make up a 'certificate'. No piece of paper a bike shop or mechanic can give you has any legal value (although a garda or even a judge just might fall for it) - there is no proof the restrictor ever went into the bike, or if it did that it wasn't removed later.
