MTV Movie News Blog...Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 11:01 am
Still buzzing from the advance buzz of “The Golden Compass” at New Line’s 40th anniversary gala in New York on Friday night, New Line’s co-chairmen and co-CEO’s Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne were in great spirits — so we figured they wouldn’t mind a little “Hobbit” question...

“‘The Hobbit’ is in the future,” Lynne said, somewhat mysteriously. Does that mean there’s hope? “There’s more than hope,” Lynne said with a wink, as he walked away. So no details yet, but plans are definitely underway.

I agree. It will be crushed by expectations. It is a kid's story, unlike the LOTR books. All it will do is tarnish the legacy.

Bob Shaye is worse than both Hitler and Stalin. And I wouldn't trust MTV for movie news if Spielberg himself gave me the news via the site.

Not sure what legacy is associated with a kid's book. Just because there are expectations doesn't mean it will be bad. As with LOTR the story is already known but it's a matter of a director who will get it right. Rereading the book as adult reminded me that it is just that;a kid's book and an adventure story. If made properly it would probably be more along the lines of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe.

I was referring to the legacy of the LOTR movies, not the book. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, I mean, you can't put a book into a movie - it just doesn't work. It has to be re-arranged for it to work on screen

Then again, the Hobbit wasn't a particulalry successful example

Wow, a reply to a guy on a thread 8 years later. Probably everyone else is dead by now.

I didn't notice the date of this thread and was so confused for a minute, I thought they were remaking the hobbit already

Forget that, I've heard that Michael Jackson is going to go solo!
