Yes you can but might be worth considering getting sky to replace it which they do as part of a service call. You might also threaten to cancel telling them you cant afford another box, see if they come up with an offer to change your mind.

You can get another box, but you will need to ring them to swap the box and card details around, i.e. pair your card to your new box.

You could also threaten to cancel, see where that gets you...

yes i made threats to cancel already but didnt really get too far kept getting transfered to another operator, who was even more of an idiot than the last. my box is 5 years old so its not covered under warranty so i have to get a engineer out to diasnoise the problem (which i already know that it is the box) and it will cost me €65 euro

Sometimes the trick is to actually get to the cancellation monkey, and explain why there; start all guns blazing saying you want to cancel, say Freesat is just around the corner, etc.

I will do that the day one of my boxes goes west.

can they pair the card across the phone, because i rang up again and i got some idiot who said he wasnt able to do it across the phone and he needed to send an engineer out again at the cost of €100

Yes via satellite, an engineer cannot pair a card on site

Seems so. Repairing is always done by ringing Sky, and changes done over the air, as Tony said.

I've found that in order to get through to Scotland, ring at around 7 or 8am, when they're just in the office or at 2/3am when the volume is slack and india isnt on call.

Excellent. I have a box that needs to be repaired. I think the PSU is dead. I'll phone Sky and ask them to repair it over the phone. :)

Yes the cancellation threat worked for me.
I had a sky box old type, they called and changed it for free, about 2 years ago.
Then did the cancellation again and got 3 months half price.
And cheekily did it recently and got the sky+ box new and installation for €75 all in.

    Kind Regards
    kieran

    LOL :D

In case of confusion, I did mean re-pairing (the viewing card) :)

I ran my wheelie chair over my viewing card in the days of analogue. I phoned Sky but they said they couldn't re-pair it. I had to pay £10 for a replacement. When it arrived, i had to phone again so they could activate it. Is your card broken?

got the phone number that the sky technicians use to re-pair cards to boxes and they done in less than 30 seconds
