Front page news, a man was shot in the face with a "pellet gun" in Fingal, Gardaí are investigating. The paper continues on to describe the guns as firing plastic pellets and state that they are illegal under the firearms bill, and show a Desert Eagle on the page.

They say that they are typically brought back from abroad and ask parents to be mindful of the firearms bill if they see their children using them.

More mis-information, however I can't help but be slightly relieved in this situation in that the media still hasn't coped on to the 1 joule amendment. If they were writing this story with knowledge of the legalisation of 1 joule or less devices, you can only imagine the damage that could be done to the sport. :(

Notice how its always regional newspapers and shopping centre rags that carry these stories?

Its not a co-incidence. This is a non-story, the bigger papers only pick on this stuff if there is nothign more interesting to talk about and right now there is, namely real gang-bangers with real steel really plugging cops. Chances are its some gurrier with a springer acting the big man for his mates.

Not something we need to worry about but thanks for bringing it to our attention mate.

To be fair to the Guards though the qoute from them was even headed and correct, check the firearm bill. If people did that they would see that sub 1 joule is legal.

If only we lived in a world where journalists did some research before they printed this rubbish, as we all know, they're not illegal, however the person who shot someone in the face with it should (and can legally) be charged as if he were using a real gun.
