Flush in-wall speakers

    Hi All,

Just wondering what peoples thoughts would be on flush in-wall mounted side and center speakers as part of a 5.1 setup?

I am building a small home cinema and given that the screen automatically retracts into the ceiling, I would also like the speakers to be somewhat invisible.

Assuming there is no significant negatives against this type of speaker, can anyone suggest something decent etc...?

    Thanks,
    Jab

I use a lot of Sonance in wall speakers along with Mordaunt Short, they are a good solution for keeping a clean install when the screen is retracted.

Good wall speakers aren't cheap. Cloney stock B&W ones and have a pair of superb secondhand Martin Logan Fresco speakers - great fronts - for a bargain €2000.

    Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Could you suggest where I might price them and pick them up etc? Anywhere in particular (shops) that might have them so I could hear in advance?

    THanks again,

    Hi Guys,

Would the Sonance CR101 be a suitable speaker for my needs?

    Thanks,

Well I never heard of them do I can't say but then I wouldn't recommend Mordaunt Short either. I suppose if they were substantially cheaper than the equivalent B&W speakers they should be considered. Have a look at http://www.bowers-wilkins.co.uk/display.aspx?infid=1602 first though.

Visit Cloney Audio in Blackrock too... they have a set up with B&W in-wall speakers on demo.

    Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that in the end I went for regular speakers (Kef). From talking to a few people, I was advised away from the in-wall approach as apparently if you dont do it just right and box them internally and insulate etc..etc...the hollow in the wall can end up creating a very boomy sound!

Dont know how true this is, but it does make sense. Apparently there are special kits you can get to help out here, but $$$$....so feck it!

    Cheers,
    Jab

I think you made the right decision, I have KEF speakers and very happy with it . . .
