Leigh Crowe got jail today for murder.

Reported on the news today that Gardai said that he had been IDed by witness, to which he responded "They couldn't have seen me - I was wearing a balaclava"

    Classic

    Here's the story -

Tipperary father of two receives life sentence for death of man at house party
    08/10/2007 - 14:55:17

A Tipperary father of two who shot another man in the face at a house party in Clonmel in 2006 has been jailed for life.

Thirty three year old Leigh Crowe with an address at Elm Park, Clonmel, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 25-year-old Owen Cahill, the attempted murder of Mark Doolan at the party on April 2 2006 and the assault causing harm of Sharon Rossiter.

The Central Criminal Court heard that on the night of the incident two masked men entered the house on the outskirts of Clonmel carrying a double barrelled sawn off shotgun and a pump action shotgun and one of them walked up to Mr Cahill and shot him in the face at point blank range.

Pretty straight forward, nothing exciting to see here until.....
'Sgt O'Riordan said that when Crowe was interviewed he asked gardaí what evidence they had against him. They told him he had been identified at the scene. Crowe replied "that's bullsh*t. Nobody saw me. I had a balaclava and gloves.'

    What a hero!

Where exactly does it say that that's what he said? I can't find it anywhere.

what puzzles me is, he shot one guy in the arm, for which he was convicted of attempted murder, while for the guy he shot in the face and killed, he was only convicted of manslaughter. how does that work then??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Because you can't attempt manslaughter? If you were attempting it then it would have premeditation and so would be murder. Or maybe it's a typo :D

How can somebody walk up to someone with a sawn off shogun point it at his face and blow his head off only to be charged with manslaughter?
"sorry officer i didn't mean to kill him, I was only wanting to give him a fright"

The best part of this post is the "you're" part.

The trial was told that Crowe was one of two masked men entered the house that night armed with shotguns.

Crowe's accomplice walked up to Mr Cahill and shot him in the face at point blank range. Mr Cahill died "almost instantaneously".

Mr Doolan managed to distract the gunmen momentarily but received a gunshot wound to the upper right arm while Ms Rossiter was struck with the butt of a gun.

I thought you cannot incriminate yourself? In fact I was pretty sure of this!

You can, that's why "everything you say can be taken down and used in court".
Or at least in Ireland you have the right to remain silent.

    Btw, necro lock.
