Hi. Does anyone know about child anxiety? Im worried about a nine year old child who has become increasingly anxious about fires, robberies, being attacked and hurt and is having periods of sadness for reasons she cannot explain. I know all children worry but I feel it has gotten worse and now is afraid to go to bed on her own and is crying more than usual, even though 2 years ago she was going to bed alone and sleeping fine. She also worries alot about getting into trouble in school. Even though I reasure her I will explain to her teacher why we were late for example, I can see the worry in her face and she is really scared of getting into trouble. Should I be worried or is this normal for a nine year old? Please help!

We have a parenting forum, I think this thread would get more tips over there.
Would you not register so you could post in that forum?
Let me know if you wish for me to move this thread there.

Go to your doctor. She may need to get help. DOn't know where you are but there is a brilliant Child psychiatric service based at the Mater Hospital which has a clinic in the Ballymun Civic centre.
