The army(maybe) in Burger King on O connell St...

I was in Dublin city centre today and there was a huge crowd outside of the burger king. A gentleman in army camos was threatening to beat up the bouncer in burger king, with his several large army mates trying to stop him. This went on for a good 15 minutes, or so.

Anyone there or know what was going on? It hardly gave me confidence in our army!

You sure it was the Army? They arent allowed to wear their camo out side the barracks. Probably Free Clothes Assoication

Quite possibly. They looked kind of young.

There was also an army of security men by the time the young gentleman was ejected!

Sounds like 1916 all over again, can't believe the Irish Army surrendered to the Burger King security army!!!

Its not surprising the armies full of knacks anyway! heh, nah only messin' :p

I'd say your man could get in a hell of a lot of trouble after that. I hear they could kick you out for getting in a fight, and that's when not wearing your gear!

They can wear it outside of the Barracks. You're allowed wear it on the way or coming back from duty, whilst on duty or at an event or conference after recieving permission from the GOC.

The same rules apply to the RDF....... Or Free Clothes Association as you called them.

My guess would be it was just a few lads that got their hands on some uniform from mates and decided to wear them while out on the piss. You can expect to see that sight a lot more as Halloween gets closer.

Burger kings firepower was clearly superior.

They didnt appear to be drunk... Except for the one, you know, raving madman.

They might have been trying to recreate 1916 and just got the address wrong.

Possibly, and were pleasantly suprised the rations were so good.

could have been army lads but I doubt it - im not sure the restricition on their uniforms in public but Ive seen it done: my Stepbro's dad will occassionaly run errands in uniform when he gets off duty - sometimes for a few hours.

But more than likely just some people that bought **** in an army surplus store.

I didn't even think of that....... SDoom do you know if it was Irish DPM? Or are you familiar with the pattern?

By the way...... Were they wearing berets by any chance?

Yeah.. damn volunteers. They'd be better off out.. robbing cars or sitting on walls.. or sitting on the internet putting people down because they've nothing better to do....

By the way.. the FCA doesnt exist anymore.. just a new organisation that helps to back up the day to day workings of the army. Hardley a reason to slag them off. Go volunteer for something and then get back to us.

And anyway to the OP.. thousands of soldiers in the Irish army (if it was an army person), one does something wrong, and that shakes your confidence in the army? Is that not a bit of a mad generalisation?

They were a couple of throwaway remarks, I wouldn't get too worked up.

Well if no berets, they were probably just some civvi's that got their hands on some uniforms.

That or else they were improperly dressed whilst in uniform and obviously a bunch of numpties.

Mad generalisations are what this country were founded on :)

Yeah, you are right, but as I said they appeared perfectly sober, just this one guy was acting like someone dumped on his cornflakes (or whopper). I wouldn't like the idea of him having a firearm in an emergency.

But as people have pointed out, he may not have been actual military. Thats why I posted, to get opinions!

    Disruptive Pattern Material.

Maybe you should alter OP to say it might not have been army after all?

1 guy was causing trouble and the rest tried to stop him... I would think that would be cause for commendation, no? If it was the other way around then it would be cause for concern, but you get gobsh*tes everywhere, so if it was just 1 causing trouble then that's a good day!

I agree. But it happens........ I remember I was out last year on Halloween when a bloke ran past me being chased by the police wearing a full set of DPMs and a UN Beret.

Not the uniform of the Defence Forces. It is quite illegal unless you're a serving member and on duty, on your way to duty, on the way home from duty or apply for special permission from the GOC and even then it's only for functions or conferences.

I'd wager the DPP would object also if you went around wearing clothes marked "GARDA"

French DPM is rather similar to Irish, freely available, and legal to wear, you'd likely need to know what you're looking at in order to distinguish in the absence of insignia or a reference picture.

    NTM

FCA fools,i've seen them getting into bundles a few times..one time at a bus stop some skangers were calling two of them names and it all kicked off big time. One bloke had his DPM jacket rippped down the arm. Some randomer said the gards were on thier way and the FCA blokes legged it.

Wouldn't be much consolation, as I said above, if that one person had a firearm in an emergency and his friends weren't around to stop him from acting like an eedjit.

And yeah I commend his mates!

I think there may actually be something in this! I've seen fighter planes (or whatever the irish army have) over Stephens Green earlier and just their at lunch time there was about 20 guys in military uniform going up Camden St on brand new motorbikes.

Seems like quite a response over being refused entry to Burger King.

    Are we being invaded?
