I am getting kicked offline at exactly 7.30 pm every evening and my browser settings are going weird. I've never had trouble like this before so I havent a clue where to start - i think its adware....

    Anyone got any tips?

Unlikely. Spyware and viruses aren't an issue for macs. There are of course programs that claim to prevent/remove both but it's questionable whether they do anything at all except stop you from (god forbid) passing them on to a windows user.

It must be something else. What do you mean by kicked offline? Maybe it's your isp. What browser are you using? Is it crashing?

Is it only MSN you lose or is it everything to do with the internet, i.e. web browsing, ftp, torrents ?

What does Camino display in this situation ? Does it effect Safari or Firefox ?
Can you still access computers on your own network during this period ?
Do you share the connection with anyone either via wireless or wired to the router ?

Do you lose the DSL sync on the modem, can you still collect email after this time ?
Are you behind a firewall of any kind ?
How long does this downtime last for ?

There are lots of other questions to ask but these should get us started. I doubt very much it's spyware though.

imo sounds like an ISP thing.

As sad professor said viruses and spyware etc really aren't an issue on macs.

Also spyware/virus that cuts its own means of spreading itself kind of seems a little silly.

Very unlikely to be any kind of malware. Possibly related to the issues discussed at the start of this thread. Have you tried ringing BT?
