    Hi,

I'm currently looking at an item, a gift for someone, coming to about $30 with postage and I was wondering what the customs duty limit is?

I know if a package is worth under a certain amount, it doesn't get charged, but I don't know what that amount is.

    Can anybody help?

Think it is €22 standard, and €45 if it is marked as a gift on the customs slip. That price includes the postage, so a €1 pen with €23 post is liable for duty, calulcated on the combined price.

However it is very unlikely they will charge you/your mate. There are 1000s of packages they have to check, and only so many they can process in a day- so obvisouly they go for higher value items. The administration costs & overheads involved in collecting duty on a €22 package probably cost more than the money collected.

I got items with delcared value of $72 and post of $22 last week- no charges and was confident I wouldnt be charged- and it wasnt marked as a gift.
