Ive recently noticed that one of the times were i wish that i had my camera on me is when im in the passenger seat of the car with my wife driving.
I always spot people on the pavements, at traffic lights, outside cafes/bars etc and think "dammit, that would be a great shot!".
So i tried it today, with various results, the above shot....while obviously far from perfect being my favourite.

Basically I'm just wondering....how many others here do this...and is it even legal? ;)

i have visions of the kid looking in terror as your wife heads at speed towards him and you have your head stuck out the window with a camera and lens :D

Was messing around with tri-toning on this, (hope you dont mind)! Like _Brian_ was saying something very "mexican" about the shot.. something like

    777982-sm.jpg

Sent you a mail with some ideas/info. I think some duotoning or tri-toning could really work well with this one.

Funnily enough ... 440Hz invited me to join this group today ... and later on I was out with my friend Clare and we were driving along the Liffey valley between Lucan and the Strawberry Beds when we passed an eerie looking field shrouded in mist ... so I screeched the car to a halt (literally ... the ABS kicked in!!) ... and fired off this one ... not one of my favs but it has been a while since I have taken an new shots ... it was just nice to get out with the camera ...

oh wow - that shot is so good. most people would have to set this up, wait for an hour or two to make sure the lighting was just right before they captured it, and you took all of 1 - 2 mins ! LOL ;o) Great shot. I think its wonderful.

The first photo is great, but putting a picture on line of a child without the parents permission is kinda dodgy and would suggest it be taken down. Sorry, but just my humble opinion.

I would disagree. I think sometimes people just go too PC with things. There is no harm done in the photo at all. If things like this continue, we'll eventually get to a stage where you need a permit to photography everything/anything.

    Just my view.

See thats kind of where i am with it, the same question was asked in another thread (possibly one of Baz's?) and the general consensus was that it was a matter of taste.
Now theres certainly nothing here that could hurt the child in anyway, but on the other hand it is still a child.

Hmm im gonna have to check out the laws on this....

If it offends too many people, then mods can do as they wish with the thread.

    Hi Eirebear,

The picture doesnt offend me and the subject matter is fine and is not inappropriate (in my view), I just wouldnt put a picture of anyone on display, either in an exhibition or the net without their (or their parents) permission. I was involved with a Scrabble Tournament last year and questions were raised and also if you are at any school plays/sports days etc you have to be very aware of people wishes.

    toodles

    John

    Hi there,
I know completely where your coming from, and understand it, i'm just curious as to how the law actually sees it at the moment.
I'm trying to find out online at the minute and i'm reading some real horror stories about people getting arrested for taking a picture of there own kids at sports days etc etc.
It seems the world has became a very jumpy place, i actually asked my wife (who works in Child protection) before i edited the picture if she saw any problems with it and she said she didnt...that was good enough for me to be honest.

I'm caught in two(possibly 3) minds here, theres the side of me who doesnt want to cause any offence whatsoever and will take it down.
Theres part of me who is sick and tired of the PC brigade turning up on the offended bus and ruining society in general for everyone (thats not a dig at you by the way, just society in general:D )
And theres another part of me who thinks...how can you show city life.natuarally, without taking pictures of the kids who live in it?
    hmmmmm

I guess it's down to people's personal views. In Ireland, there is no right to privacy in a public place. So, you can take a photo of anyone and use it (as long as the image is not defaming them). Now, if the person objects, then it is totally up to the photographer to use the image or not. Of course, the vast majority of people wouldn't use a photo of someone if they object. It's just being polite.

Photography of minors can be a touchy topic. Most of the time it's people getting on the PC bandwagon. I am not 100% sure where the law stands on such an issue. It's hard to find black/white answers. I would view it as alright to use as long as you are not causing harm in the photo.

Some people don't like photos of others (without their expressed permission), but again it's personal taste.

The world will be a very sad place if you can't use people photos to show the world.

Here's a black and white answer. Agreed, the world would be a lot sadder a place without images like this.
