Question about student card

If I were to accidentally lose my student card, would they stick the same photo on for the new one? Not to sound vain, it's not just a 'bad' photo, it's absolutely awful and I'd be willing to pay for a new card with a different photo..

AFAIk as I know you're stuck with the same picture for 2 years....:D

Hence, my appearance as a sneering Holocaust victim!

Ask Student Records. They're in House 5. I think it's €6 or so. Bring in a photo yourself.

And just so you know, you get it taken again in 3rd year. I was missing part of my face in my card for the first two years. When I got my photo taken in 3rd year, the lady said how I looked more manly now.

If you lose it, it costs you 6 quid to get a new one, and they use the exact same photo. that photo is on your student record (check the student info system) and its on your id card for the first two years. deal.

oh and paying to get a new photo on a card that you are realistically never going to use for more then ten seconds in the library IS vain. very vain.

Apparently you'll have this photo for 2 years... don't worry my photo wasn't great either.

Oh, I forgot to say: post it up so we can check.

Hey AND Topshop/Miss Selfridge etc. I basically look like a very depressed victim, it's also a very dark grey for some reason..

Get over it tbh. Everyone's pic is bad. My Coláiste Chiaráin pic made me look like a psychpathic paedophile. My JF/SF photo was only slightly better. The best the registration lady could say was "I saw worse" in a once-ever way. My current pic isn't that bad. My staff card says I'm a woman.

If you're that concerned about the staff in Topshop, get a Student TravelRipOffCard.

Hee. Oh, you're stuck with it now.

As the others said, and not to sound harsh or dismissive, but deal. Mine is absolutely awful as well, I look like I'm on the verge of tears. And, seeing as I repeated JF, and am repeating SF, this will be my fourth year with it.

Also, far be it for me to disagree with the great Myth, but I don't think the current system can accommodate a brought-in photo - everything is done with digital cameras now. A reissued card at Records will either use the existing photo or a picture they take on the spot with a camera connected to the computer, which will upload directly to SIS and print a new card.

Mine looks stupid too, I also have lots of hair in the photo which I don't have now.

I think you can get it changed every two calender years, not just every two JF/SF/JS/SS years.

Now that's not very nice. You've just upset some fun that I was going to send Student Records' way.

Is there a reason they use video cameras to take the photo? Ive two black eyes in mine 'cause there was no flash. Suppose it could be worse, if my debs had been earlier last year id have had a bite mark on my cheek!

    Kinky.

They always seem to emphasise the most garish of features. I witnessed one gentleman's card where he seem to be imitating a ripe tomato, it was unfortunate his surname was Reddy.

College should get a better effing printer/camera/whatever for the cards!! Wtf, neither i nor any of my friends have good card photos. Excuse the auld vanity but it is actually a pain to have to explain why you look so awful every time somebody asks to see your card.... bleh.

For the record my picture is bloody marvelous and is a good representation of how great I look all the time

Mine was awful too. They just put you on the seat and don't even tell you they're about to take it. They could at least say cheese or something. Don't even ask about my Student Travel Card photo.

    ^ same with me... I was expecting a 3,2,1 instead I got a "okay we're finished here".

I've got a massive grin on my photo :(

The light blinks before the photo is taken for the student travel one. No excuses there!

My college card is awful because like you guys I wasn't aware the photo was being taken. However, the guys in the Student Travel Card place, really made me laugh and thus my picture is really funny. I've got a big happy smile on my face, I like it!

I haven't seen one decent photo on a TCD student card...my friend's is particularly funny, she was flipping her hair, so you can only see part of her face and the rest is just flaming red hair. Mine is bleh. Particularly bitter now that I'm repeating...does this mean I'm stuck with the same one for THREE YEARS! Sob!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,195 ✭✭✭Corruptedmorals

I've seen one good photo so far. My main problem with mine is that I'm a very dark grey in it...bit ridiculous.

what colour are the new cards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

Blue. Babyish blue. A bit like Man City blue.

I can think of many other areas that would be far more deserving of college money. First on my list would be fixing the heating in my room. Now, I've had reason to laugh with my mates about how I used to look like a junky on my old card and how my current one gives me an elongated head, but I have never experienced the 'pain' of explaining the circumstances.
