    Hi Guys,

    Really enjoy the forum.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if it's generally ok to take photos at gigs? I'm going to see Pete Murray at the Ambassador on Sat night and hoped to bring along the 400D.

I've tried to ring them but can't seem to get through.

Every venue/promoter/artist will have their own rules. I'd say for the ambassador, they'll say no. What alot of venues don't get though is that nobody is going to use flash photography - which is a big no-go area for gigs - because everyone has a fast lens for gigs.

yeah, ambassador strictly photo pass only. Could try getting there early and talk to head person or tour manager if he/she is about....

Thanks for the quick response guys.

You'd like to think so, wouldn't you? Unfortunately that's far from true.

Agh! Never seen that, just assumed most enthusiasts had more sense.

most people at big venues aren't entusiasts, they are press and they often want to use flash to get a basic lead singer headshot so they can at least give their picture editor one sharp, 'correctly' exposed photo

any tog who is trying to capture the actual atmosphere at a gig will very very rarely use flash

At big gigs (ambassdor+), people not using flash is rare. The people who do though are press, one guy in particular. Was doing Director a while back and we all nearly got screwed cause this guy was blasting away with his flash. Anyway, get onto the bands, most have contact details on their websites, easiest thing to do. You'd be surprised how many get back to you

Exactly. I've used it with my 10-20mm at a local gig where I knew the band. Never, never at a proper gig though.
I hate flashes at gigs. Apart where some poor fcuker from row Z tries their x10 zoom.... with a flash.

    That gives me a smile...

I'd usually only take the DSLR to festivals or small venues where bands usually don't mind people taking pics. I'd never use a flash.. I'm sure it must piss off bands big time!!!
