After whatever time they close the gate, how do you open the gate with the swipe pass is it just with your student card?

Basically you can swipe in and out these times (it's not 24 hours). Sometimes the swipe from the outside doesn't work and you need to put your arm through and swipe from the inside.

I have a key, your gate times are meaningless to me.

I thought the gate across the road form pearse was "out of order" due to construction work, no? I've been walking around to the sports hall entrance each day.

That gate has been (use dodgy Northern accent) put permanently and verifiably beyond use. At least that's the official line. The new gate is referred to as the Pearse St. East gate in the list of times (because it is on the east end of Pearse St), and it took the hours of the old Westland gate (although they were really no more than a suggestion at weekends!).

What I really want to know is when the gate behind the (old) Civil Engineering building will appear on a map? It can be used by all students and staff during certain hours with a swipe card (in or out) and yet it is always left out of maps/lists of gates/etc for some mysterious reason.

The "sports hall entrance", as you refer to it, is the new access point at that part of College. It's all part of College's wider plan to reinvigorate Pearse Street, apparently.

Its been taken out of use. The swipe machine for it has been removed. sigh

    Right.

The Sports Centre Gate does not let you in from the outside, however I have the dexterity and coordination of an arthritic monkey and I was well able to use the swipe from the inside (don't forget to reverse the card)

The 'magic' gate (pearse street gate) is similar - easy to get out, impossible to get in and you can't swipe from the inside. I think it locks at 9.30pm but beware, either security or enterprising locals keep putting bicycle locks on it.

BTW, there is a really good sports club just beside the magic gate.
Patience. It always works. On another note, when's the club's big knees up? I forgot to join in fresher's week so I have no idea when this thing is on. Are there more crazy russians there this year?

I know that there's a safety meeting tonight in the Walton Theatre at seven o'clock.
