My vote has to go to August Undergrounds Mordum.
It is the most depraved piece of cinema I have ever seen and I urge anyone that wants something incredibly nasty to seek it out.

    Or
"120 days of sodom" in english.

The single most vile, disturbed and disgusting thing I have ever beheld in all my life. A few friends and I were up late one night drinking cans of cider and getting stoned when this appeared on some foreign channel. "Lets watch it for the laugh" we thought. Due to a process of "one up's manship" we forced one another to watch til the finale, a scene where a banquet is held and the main course is a giant desert dish full of Sh*t.

    Very very strange film.

it takes a lot to shock nowadays. I remember watching Last House on the Left many many years ago with some friends. Most of the viewing audience asked for it to be turned off... we didnt really have the interwebz back then tho.

Yeah, one of those Guinea Pig films would get my vote too. I saw 120 days of Sodom and didn't think it was as bad as people said.

Men Behind the Sun made for uncomfortable viewing. I also couldn't watch the animal killings in the 'Cannibal _' films

According to the guys over at bloodydisgusting.com there's a film called Tumbling Doll Of Flesh that's far, far worse than any of the Guinea Pig films. I think even "Flower..." worked as a surreal juxtaposition of torture and poetry, but TDoF is supposedly just a very realistic fake snuff film. Thankfully, it's impossible to get hold of. ;)

As far as the Guinea Pig films go, I have to say Mermaid In A Manhole is actually fairly good. It's much more of a surreal freakish horror film. It'll seriously make you vomit.

Its not that impossible to get hold of.

i would have to say cannibal ferox or cannibal holocost, one or two scenes in those that are quite disturbing

Murder set pieces is fairly bad, in my oppinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭estariol

well disturbing and sick are 2 very different things....

sickest, august mordun underground or flowers...... (although slaughtered vomit dolls upset me more)

    disturbing, Requiem for a Dream

    my full list

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

    Love Murder Set Pieces.
Slaughtered Vomit Dolls I just find funny.
The animal killing scenes in holocaust and ferox are tough to watch but i think without them what Deodata was trying to put across would have been lost to a certain extent.
Ferox is just a rip-off of holocaust so it translates differently(i think anyway)

    Keep the suggestions coming guys!

Why? The shower scene in Psycho is a murder set piece, I don't see what's fairly bad about that.

D'Oh! Never even heard of the film Murder Set Pieces, I thought he was talking about films depicting murder. Oh well. :o

I found the rape scene in Irreversible very difficult to watch, not a horror movie I know, but might as well have been.

    Ha ha.
    Thought that.
Its a brilliant little independent slasher movie from the states.
Its pretty brutal and is the first nc-17 horror movie ever released in the states.
(nc-17 is basically the same rating hard core porn gets)
Lionsgate films released it earlier this year with around 8 and a half minutes cut out of it.
Look for the unrated directors cut if you are going to check it out.
    Its readily available on e-bay.

I'm talking about a movie that is called "Murder set Pieces" , not just any murder set piece in any movie.

For some reason Cigarette Burns from Masters of Horror really got to me. Not exactly sure why as it's nothing especially sick, I think the concept just unsettled me.

I honestly don't get why people thought that cliched, by the formula piece of trash was not just good, but somehow, the 'sickest film ever' and other nonsense in the same vein. Atrocious. Unless the version I watched had all these alleged nasty bits cut out, or I fell asleep without realising it.

there's another movie I'm keeping an eye on but I've just gone and forgotten its name. It was a trilogy of films, and spares nothing. Children murdered, beastiality, etc. The whole works. The make up effects look amazing, which is what really caught my eye. When I get the name I'll post it.

Believe it or not, i've yet to a see a film that disturbs me mentally or physically... and i've seen all the August Undergrounds, and Salo...
and what is weirder, the only film I can think that actually made me want to vomit was the scene in Van Wilder when they're eating the Dog Spunk Eclares!

    anyone else find that weird?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,330 ✭✭✭niallon

Schlinder's List. All the more disturbing that it actually happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,080 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

I found the animal slaughter scenes in Cannibal Holocaust pretty rough. Watched Mysterious Skin recently, not a horror movie but it was pretty disturbing.

OK based on all these recommendations I went out and got some of this stuff...

Mermaid in a Manhole - now that is disturbing. Some of the most simple effects are by far the most gruesome - ingeniously done.

Murder Set Pieces - very interesting, and love the way it was shot.

Mordum - Em, didn't get the hype around this, terrible quality, found it hard to follow what was going on. Certainly a disturbing idea, but the way it was executed didn't really impress me. I have another August underground movie here, called Penance? But yet to watch.

I have Slaughtered Vomit Dolls but not watched it yet, heard alot of mixed things.

Finally, personally I think the most brutal film ever is Schlinders List, for reasons expressed above. Not that the things depicted in the sickest, nastiest films haven't occured elsewhere at some point in time, but on such a grand scale and in such a pointless, indiscriminate fashion...

Another good one that I forgot to mention was the movie 'Beyond the Limits' - but it's more in the classical gore fest style then deeply disturbing, but as someone said, sick and disturbing are distinct characteristics. Men Behind the Sun comes a close second, mostly for the same reasons as Schlinders List.

I had never actually heard of Murder Set Pieces either, but these days I'm way behind. I'm busy with the B-movie likes of 'Pumpkinhead IV', 'Universal Soldiers' (note the 's') and 'I Am Omega' (shameless I am Legend cash in from the guys behind Transmorphers, but it does have the ever cool Mark Dacascos):D

I'm getting a few more, so I'll report back soon! Plans to watch Bad Boy Bubby with redhairedguy very soon too...:)

hi, just wanting to ask, whered you get some of these?
i've looked all around Dublin, cannot find most of the films listed here
only ones i found were Ichi the Killer and and Salo 120 days
...but i've seen them years ago!
I'm guessing you got them via the net?

If, by chance not, where'd you pick them up, I need an excuse to waste some cash at the minute... plus they could make for interesting X-mas presents

Ebay is always good. Here are some links to other sites to get the weird and wonderful.

    www.unearthedfilms.com

All sites I have used in the past and have had no hassle with.

    To Havok re Mordum.
The point of the movie is that it isnt actually a movie, just found footage of some psychos screwing around around with the video camera hence the poor picture quality.
For me personally August Underground is the best of the series and penance the weakest but thats just my preference.
You should check out toetagpictures most recent release - the redsin tower.
Its a low budget slasher with a twist.
Some people didnt like it for the fact that it does look low budget but the fact it was shot over 2 weeks with less than 10k for budget I think its pretty damn inpressive.
There is some pretty good gore in it too.
In case you didnt know the crew that made the August Underground series did the special effects for murder set pieces(one of my fave horrors of all time BTW)

I know that it's meant to be that, but at spots the quality was so poor that, deliberately emulating the feel of a home video or not, it seriously affected the movie. I'm talking in terms of distortion, pixelation etc rather then the directorial skills ;)

But now I'm thinking it was just a terrible copy I have, as I'm just after flicking through Penance, and while the same style, is much easier to see what's going on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Again thats the point of the trilogy.August Underground is the first of the series and is the grainiest of the 3(and my personal favourite). The reason Penance is much clearer is because its 6 years after the 1st one so technology has moved on ie the advent of Hi-definition so naturally its going to be much clearer.
If you are murdering people non discriminatly then you probably arent going to be too worried about having a totally clear picture,as the series progressed the quality of the footage gets better.

That's Asylum Productions, cracking company! Also responsible for Snakes On A Train and King Of The Lost World, a VERY shameless King Kong rip off! I recommend checking out their version of War Of The Worlds, for plot, pacing and acting, mostly, it knocks Spielberg's mish mash mess to pieces!

I have seen every Asylum film, you name it, I've seen it. I Am Omega, Universal Soldiers, War of the Worlds, Snakes on a Train (I posted a lengthy review of that one), The Hitcher, Transmorphers, Hillside Cannibals, Pirate of Treasure Island...and more. They're all terrible, naturally, though War of the Worlds would have been great if the CGI was even as good as their latest films. Which is ironic seeing as aside from the improved CGI, every film gets worse and worse, at this stage they are completely unwatchable, even to the most hardened B-movie fan. Universal Soldiers was an absolute joke, not even I could watch it.

Their best films are their 'original' ones, the cash-ins are virtually unwatchable, but some of the others like Bloody Bill are pretty fun to watch. Even the ones that don't rely on CGI tend to be OK, Hillside Cannibals was pretty OK too and had some inventive gore.

Look at this, I reckon they spend more money on DVD Box art then the actual productions themselves...

The king of B-Movies are Nu-image, they make absolutely brilliant movies that squeeze every cent out of tiny budgets and never fail to entertain. Their film 'Creature' is actually not only the best B-Movie I've ever seen, it actually surpasses the likes of Alien vs Predator, and probably cost less then said features catering budget. They also churn out great Dolph Lungren movies... it's like taking a trip back to the 80's. :D

cannibal holocaust is by far the most disturing and horrific film by far !! although this film left me with memories I dont want i have to say it will stick with me forever ... I didnt hate this film , i adored it for its realism , the story is very straight forward very believable .... the gore effects where amazing .... simply put this film is a classic and you can see why most horror/slasher flicks get there ideas .. this film is where it all started ... as it says on the dvd box ... this film goes all the way , it will touch every nerve in your body.
Any1 looking for the ultrabit un-cut version let me know , I just got it after seeking it out for almost 6months , its not the sort of film i want in my dvd collection so will pass it on to someone as sick and twisted as myself.... hahaha .... BE WARNED .

Please tell in 150 words or more why u deserve to see this film ! and it yours .

Why wouldnt you want it in your collection.

Its one of the most important horror movies of all time and a worthy item in any film fans collection.

Is the Ultrabit you have the numbered version with the slipcase?

I myself have 2 Ultrabit editions.

1 ltd+numbered for on the shelf and 1 regular for every day use.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 venomousXFROG

Although i did enjoy this film , i think it's one of those films you will only watch once ... i got the 2 disc ultrabit edition ... in the black slipcover with 2 gold coloured disc.....as for having it in my dvd collection , maybe ur right , maybe i should keep it but knowing that i've seen it .... a film like this will haunt me forever .... i'm not a big fan of the horror genre .... i only go it because of the hype surrounding it and the controversary .... that's what interested me .

    I love this movie.

The whole infamy and mystery behind it is intriguing to me plus its incredibly powerful and its a searing social commentary.

Though its not the most disturbing thing I've ever laid eyes on, there were some scenes in Miike's 'Imprint' fot Masters of Horror that were pretty bloody rough, I think showtime refused to air it in the states. Pretty brutal (for TV at least).

Check out Audition and Tetsuo also. God bless those half demented Asian film makers.

Has any1 seen the ''piranha scene '' from cannibal holocaust ? has any1 any information , why is is not in the uncut version ???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Piranha scene never made it to print.

I think its that they filmed it and it was just crappy so it didnt make it on to the screen.

The Ultrabit edition of the movie is the longest version available.

Gozu is defo Miikes weakest movie IMO.

I can handle weird/subersive movies but I thought this was very very poor.

Worse even than Shinjuko Triad Society.
