a friend has been on to me - she moved files from her D40 to her laptop, and deleted them from the card. her computer swallowed the files; is there any utility to undelete from a card (which hasn't been written to since)?

sandisk rescuePRO worked for me every time I need it in cases like that one or even worse
it usually comes in a tiny disk with ultra II and III compact flash cards (probably others sizes/formats too)

hmm. it's $40. dunno if they mean that much to her. does it work on non-sandisk cards?

try the free tools here, they'll recover the photos even if the card has been formatted, assuming the files are standard image files

there are a few freeware undelete tools around, which should also work, if the files have only been deleted it should be no problem to get them back

it seems recuva did the trick.

If the price seems excessive, I suggest buying a SanDisk Extreme memory card (assuming it would be used) as Rescue Pro comes free with it. You can get those cards very cheaply from 7dayshop.com. Perhaps someone else might be able to let us know if any of the other SanDisk cards come with the software.
