A VW "camper van" without the camper bits on carzone !

While away those dark winter months fitting your high roof (no more pup-ups, remember?) and making cabinets ...

mmmhhh... looks to be a good base, going by the pics

(thankfully I got that out of my system, or I'd be tempted)

    footnote:
I've got nothing to do with the seller, no idea who he/she is

very realistic price anyway and you can get a DIY kit to turn these T3's into campers....and no I'm not tempted either - got enough now:)

Heah Peasant, What's this you say about no more pop-ups?

Just interested as I intend putting one in before next summer.

    Thanks

Does that mean the new Volkswagen Californias are not allowed to be sold?

    I don't know colm.

Well, you can always sell (and buy) them, but it looks unlikely that you can register them as a camper ..will have to be "car" instead.

are they banning them on safety or security grounds?

    Nobody's "banning" anything ...

A camper has a cheaper rate of VRTand cheaper roadtax (78 euro regardless of engine size).

Somebody in customs/revenue has now decided that pop-tops are actually very much like cars and could therefore be used more as a car than as a camper ...so now they don't class them as campers any more.

are they gonna charge full whack road tax for pop ups now, or just for new registrations?

    Once again, I don't know ...

But I would imagine that they would have difficulty changing the status quo.
Once a camper is registered as such, there is no record if it has a pop-top, a high roof or whatever, all it says is "motorcaravan" on the registration documents.

Short of calling every registerd "motorcaravan" for a visual inspection, there is no way of finding out what kind of roof it has.

Also I would suspect that there are some legal issues with just changing criteria retrospectively ...

So I would be VERY surprised if existing pop top campers were all of a sudden to loose their status.

But I'm not the revenue department :D
