Buying a Canon DSLR is the US?

What are the possible problems with buying a Canon DSLR in the US?

I am travelling to the US next week and I want to buy my first DSLR. I would like to buy the Canon 40D. Other than paying duty on the lens on the return trip, what else should I consider? Is the camera the exact same as here, other than battery charger needing a plug adaptor?

    1. Cash Back? Claim here?
    2. Warranty?

    anything else?

    you advice is appreciated,
    Ciaran

You don't mention where you're going in the US, but I recommend you buy from a reputable shop, like B&H. I got a Canon DSLR there last year and have been very happy.

I would unwrap everything and put it in a camera bag and carry it home like that. You're going to bring it on the plane anyway.

I'm going to Chicago. Any idea on Warranty, it is not very clear on the Canon website??

Canon here won't honour it, same way around, Canon USA won't honour international or European warranty. You might be able to buy 3rd party international warranty from the likes of Mack or B&H.

Thank you. I think I will stick with an Olympus E510 I have on order from Germany. It has 2 years international warranty.

after looking at the 40D anyway, there is not that much more to it than the 400D. 3" LCD, with live view. Digic III processor for possibly better IQ and faster continuous shooting. Better RAW, and more RAW options. Weather proofed. OK, OK there is alot more. But not for what I need, yet.

    Thanks and regards,
    Ciaran
