Planting Escalonia Hedges

We are at the planting stage in the new build and we are planning on planting the hedges over the Bank Holiday weekend.

We will be planting Escalonia along the driveway but can anyone advise what distance from the kerb we should plant them?

I have read that the Escalonia should be planted 12" apart and is this also true with Rosa Rogosa?

One last question - our house overlooks the Atlantic. Can anyone recommend hardy trees for a coastal garden?

    Regards,

    D
