    TCD Alternative Freshers Ball

17th of October in The Village

    Line up includes

    Halves
    Pete Pamf
    New Amusement
    Grand Pocket Orchestra
and more... with quality DJs to follow til late.

The most you're going to pay for a ticket is €10, and discounts are being given for various things.

A nice alternative for those who know their music and are tired of the same old bands being used for all things college.

This bad boy is being organised by DURNS in association with Netsoc and some others.

I'm going to this, I really want to see the Halves play I heard they're deadly (and their myspace indicates the same).

I saw them at Hard Working Class Heroes last weekend, they're really amazing... you really get involved in the music, it's fantastic.

Also saw Grand Pocket Orchestra and loved them, great quirky feel good stuff.

    Some Myspaces...

    http://www.myspace.com/grandpocketorchestra

    http://www.myspace.com/newamusement

    http://www.myspace.com/ahomeforhalves

    http://www.myspace.com/petepamf

If you don't know Pete Pamf you definitly know some of his songs from commercials and soundtracks... the type of songs you hear and love and then go "I wonder who that's by?"

And then New Amusement is my own band, so I won't go into a self horn tooting session.

I'm really looking forward to this. I only caught the end of Halves at Electric Picnic and really want to see their entire set.

Nice line-up. I'll well go to that. €5 is very decent too. Don't supose there's a further reduction for music students?!

Ok, bad news and good news...

bad news : Halves had to cancel

Good news: Codes are playing instead

If you want to get in contact with DURNS, do so with their csc email address or with their myspace

The €5 price is for DURNS members and members of other societies involved.

The standard price in Trinity is €10 , but obviously you could just join DURNS and the total cost would be €7.

Tickets are available from WAV box office, afaik it's €12 or €10 with a student card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭mar-z

Still really looking forward to this. Tickets are on sale at stands in the arts block and hamilton for those who dont know.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Frankiestylee

    Marsie you aul dawwwwg

But yes, Codes are excellent, so the line-up is still solid and worth way more then the asking price, and that's not even taking into account my own band... cause that would sound big headed.
Take any band out of that line-up and it's still damn damn damn solid and crazah good!

You can buy tickets from the wav box office too... that's down outside next to Whelans, just for any of you graduates that might want to come along. :D

Only two days left to get tickets in the Arts block and Hamilton... and obviously tickets can be bought on the door on the night.

So is anyone going? I'll be there and I'll be DJing afterwards with Frankie^ if anyone is interested.

C'mon people... the SU have already snubbed us and thrown their lot in with some random nothing to do with Trinity club night... I just wish for once people would see an event for what it is rather then how shiney the posters are.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 793 ✭✭✭xeduCat

Lads, do you have an idea of what the timings are (obviously subject to change I know)? Trying to do two other things that evening and I want to figure out how it's all going to work...

Now Frankie, in all fairness, did ANY of the DURNS people actually get in touch with ents about this?

Otherwise you have no one to blame but yourselves.

What an utterly ****e line up, and I don't see any drinks promotions, also 10 euro in, not even in the SU email, shows how much organisation you lads have. I'll be going to the betabar instead. Your gig sucks frankie.

This Betabar is a much better gig.

hah, fat troll, you don't know your music anyway.

No need to be abusive just because its a ****e event. Also, "you don't know your music" what the hell is that meant to mean.

As far as I know, they did contact ents.

Seems both harsh and inadequate given (a) Boston's been posting here for as long as I've been in college, and thus doesn't fulfill the basic troll requirement of being a fly-by-night - maybe "tool" was what you were going for? And (b) his post seemed (to me at least) to be a quite humourous spoof on Frankie's bitchy "Your bands are ****!!1!!one!!" post over on the Betabar thread. Or maybe he was just being mean for the sake of it (if so, let him at it; he's hardly the first among us)

First off... I'm pretty sure the lads did contact Ents and the SU were aware of the event which is why the lack of a showing in the email was unexpected.

Dear Boston... if you think the line-up is ****e then I will quite bluntly say you're clueless. I'm all up for personal opinions etc, but the line-up was solid and above reproach. If you can name any line-up for a fiver or even for a tenner, or hell, any line-up on one night this year that was better... go for it. Prove your point.

As for my post saying "ah yer bands are ****e"... I merely highlighted how good the line-up of the DURNS gig was, I don't think I said the betabar bands were ****e.

I think that's all that needs to be said for now.

Thanks for the commentary. I think Boston is fairly well known as a long-term troll it's not really the issue though.
Codes were very good and I'll definitely be seeing them again.

Frankie, erm, pugwash's. I mean, he's got Kasabian in there, thats allways good, but alas no killers, so not a perfect ten.

Low, if you reference me in a post again, I'll ask some people to look into why such a new user seemingly has such a wide knowledge of boards.

Ps, It was I!, who got your last account banned.

Ok to clear a few things up, we have been in contact with ents about doing gigs this year and this event. I wont get into it anymore here beyond that.

If people really thought that the su would be all up for advertising a gig that is run against the freshers ball and also ran against beta bar that they are advertising than I guess they were wrong.

The line up was very good, and I'm not going to get into a which is better than which beyond saying that I haven't been a big fan of the bands been in beta bar recently. But thats up to other people to decide for themselves.

As for the price, it was 5 for members which for 5 average bands is good, for this line up its great. It would be a gig I would more readily spend 15 into than the freshers ball, but again thats personal opinion.

I haven't read the beta bar thread so I don't know if frankie said anything there, but the your bands are **** bit here isn't very constructive, unless trying to prove a point of some sort (beyond not liking the bands/getting back at something frankie wrote possibilities)

Anyway, I may well get hammered by people here as I pretty much have never used this forum apart from couple of comments about this event. So try keep the what do I know stuff to a minimum, for one thing this event is over anyway.

I dunno what Pugwash ran, though I'd be interested to hear. I'm a lot more relaxed after a self-imposed board-holiday. :)

Its ok, long as the only place you were badmouthing me was the durns forums frankie ;)
