My 98 opel corsa dies in power whenever the accelorator is pressed when it is initially started...could this be the carb? or does anyone have any diagnostics?

98 corsa would be fuel injected so no carb. could e a few things, possibly air meter.

My guess would be an oxygen sensor could be knackered but get it to a garage to be diagnosed for sure.

I had this problem with a 99 1.0 corsa - Air mass meter - 90euro for a replacement and simple to fit, or if you are strapped for cash, you can try cleaning it with electronic cleaner, Spray can be bought in Maplins for about a tenner.

Only €90!! I have been asked 525 INC VAT just last Monday !!!

The garage said among other things that the Corsa needed an air mass meter as it is performing very poorly (that's true, I feel the car is not working fine) and just for that they wanted to charge me 525 euro.

Is it easy to change? I am useless with my hands.
Where did you get the new one? Official Opel garage?

AFAIK, most decent motor factors will supply MAFs for a Corsa of that age. €90 sounds about right for a spurious one - supply only. It's a 15 min job to fit and well within the DIY scope. €525 sound like a steep main dealer price.

Original Bosch air mass meter costs around €240 (including VAT). Got one on ebay for €62 (including delivery), not the original Bosch one but an exact replacement (brand new).

The following link explains how to change it: http://www.carbasics.co.uk/how_to_change_air_mass_meter.htm (this is for a VW Sharan but it gives a pretty good idea of the different steps).

I managed to replace it myself so if I can do it, anyone can do it.
Replacing the air mass meter solved the issue immediately.

Just wondering how long you got out of the ebay air mass meter? I need to replace mine now €240 supply and fit at the opel dealer, €99 supply only from micksgarage.ie but its QUINTON HAZELL, I hear these are not great. Mine is a 1L 00 Corsa

Is the engine warning light on. Egr valve is another possibilty they are known to cause problems on your model corsa.
