Hey i wanna go away traveling and wont have the money for maybe 4 - 6 months so wanna start planning now. I play guitar and sing and plan to do a one-man-band thing where possible. I have some contacts in Boston (pub) where i could start but will want to move around after a few months..

Is it hard to get a year visa and is it more likely i'll get a 6 month? I basically want to go with enough money to ars€ around... then work for a few months and arse around etc. etc.

I was thinking leave for Boston in january.. work as much as i can and then head to the west coast for the summer.. then my visa will nearly be up... can i go to mexico or hawaii for a while and come back or should i leave the country?

Would like to head to asia then with plans to live in thailand and/or china for a year then on to Oz or vice versa

    Any veterans got any ideas?

    thanks!

you get 90 days in america. not 6 months. unless you have a visa that permits otherwise. If you stay in boston from january till may and then head to cali for the summer and leave to go into mexico and try to go back to the US. you'll be denied entrance.

don't think they allow you to talk about illegal activity on here so i can't tell you what to do. You should try 3 months in america and then travel down through mexico and on to south america.

Thanks but i plan on getting a Visa....
I didn't know going to mexico and then back was strictly illegal.. As in, you could go to US on a 6 month visa fly home to Ireland and then after a week go back for the allowed 90 days right? So what makes mexico any different (unless u cross the border only for a day or do it numerous times?

Thanks for the reply tho :)

what 6 month visa are you on about? all the visa's for america are in different classifications and are issued based on meeting the requirements of each classification. such as full time student for j1, having an employer sponsor you for a h1b visa or being a genius for the o visa.

america isn't like other countries that allow you to just pay for visas or apply for one.

and i meant you crossing into mexico outside of 90 days, not within. you can cross as much as you want once your visa is valid.

if you find out post it here cause i've a mate who wants to move over with me.

your mates may have went on the J1. Thats 4 months of work and then you're allowed a month to travel or whatever. but you have to be a full time student or a recent graduate (within 6 months).

no i dont think it was J1 as they werent allowed work (they had to show bank details in the interview proving that they had enough money to survive without having to get a job) I will find out though and post. broke my fone lastnite so whenever i get new one i'll txt em.. u planning on moving to the US?

yeah. i have a green card so i can move over legally. although i must check if its still valid. i won when i was 21 so it's been sitting idle for over 3 years. I'll probably go to san diego as i went to college there and know a few people. or possibly chicago where i also have friends.

the dv 2009 loterry opened last wednesday. its free to apply so you should try your luck.
