    This is my first to post here so please be gentle :o)

    Is there any law in Ireland that requires a company that has been compromised to publicly acknowledge teh hack as there is in the US.

    The reason I ask is I was shocked to be told this weekend by a friend that my account details for Irelandmortgages.com (admins please redact if not ok to say) were made public some how due to the hacking of whitedust.net.

    More on this can be read here http://www.milw0rm.com/papers/175

    While not much can be done for me details now, are there any works in place to make people own up to being hacked if there aren't already, it would have liked if the company in question would have contacted me about this

    there are no laws on it that i know, was at an irish security seminar a while back where they mentioned trying to put pressure on various government bodies to get the issue addressed.

    also not sure if you have, but maybe a quick chat with the data protection commissioner about your "account details for Irelandmortgages.com" issue, they may be able to help further..

    Just to reinforce;

    The company as a data controller has a legal obligation under the Data Protection Act to keep your data secure. Make a formal written complaint to the Data Protection Commission and they are legally obliged to investigate the incident.
