Hey there, was wondering if anyone on here knows anything about Smithstown Castle in county Clare.I will be staying there soon with a group of friends and have read on a site called Haunted.ie that its supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the west of Ireland ,but apart from this source I can't seem to be able to find anything else about any haunted activity at this location. If anyone here knows more about this place I would greatly appreciate any info on it.

    Cheers

    Hello there,

It's funny really because even though you hear lots of stories on the grape-vine about places like these nobody will ever give concrete evidence about them-so finding out information can be a hard task. It's all still very under-ground, don't you think? Perhaps people happen upon strange occurrences and don't believe them themselves or can't believe them, who knows. Stayed there a while ago whilst writing, or should I say, trying to write my latest book. Mingled with the locals and heard a few tales over a drink or two but didn't hear much. It is an enchanting place and I most definitely felt an atmosphere there- I was so taken with the whole thing that I could barely produce one chapter. I write novels based on castles and the occult- none have been published yet. These days it's all about a quick scare, blood and guts whereas I veer towards the less obvious- the more natural ghost stories. These are the real things after-all. I can vouch to you that Ireland is a very haunted place, you just have to wait to see it. Stop and listen..relax, shrug of the many gaudy attachments of nowadays...go back to your roots.
Nature will guide you towards ghosts- if you let it in. I hope you enjoy or enjoyed your time there and I hope that you get what you want as I did.

    Talk again soon.
