FileMaker Pro Problem

    A customer of mine has bought a new iMac 20" C2D - which by the way is gorgeous - and wishes to move completely from an iMac g3/OS9.2/FMP2.0 to the new Mac with FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced installed.

    The problem is that the whole customer DB is formatted on FileMaker Pro 2.0. Version 8.5 doesn't seem to have an importer for version 2. However if I right click on the version 2 files and select "open with" I can open the database with 8.5. This is fine except the fields have all changed to f1,f2,f3 . . etc. instead of their original values. I can change these fields to the correct value but this has effects on the other databases which rely on the main customer base. Is anyone aware of a convertor or some app that will format the version 2 files to suit the version 8.5 format.

    Another thing is that the company's fax headers and quote system are all formatted using FMP2.0, how do I get these into version 8.5.

    I've never used Filemaker before so any advice or help would be rewarded with good Karma :)

    Can I outsource this one to my resident FileMaker Pro consultant?

    <edit>

    Sorry no joy! Sent the question on and my "consultant" says he has never had any trouble porting a db built in one version to a higher or lower version. Apparently forwards and backwards compatibilty has never been an issue in FMP for him :( Sorry!!

    Perhaps it is down to the fact that its a rather large jump from 2.0 to 8.5, maybe. Sorry not much help there.

    I figured there was an issue with such a large version gap. What is the lowest version that 8.5 can import ? That may be useful to know because I can get an earlier version if needs be. Thanks for the rapid reply !

    I got this sorted. The guys over at filemakertoday.com helped me source version 6 which imports the version 2 files nicely.

    Hi, I am just starting out with Filemaker but am trying to do something pretty complicated in order to organise my workplace. If anyone
    offers Filemaker services (I'd say this would take a day or so) or could advise me on where to start I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.
    (Please pm me if you think you can help)

    Where are you based beeper? I'd help but I'm guessing you are based in Dublin?

    Try the Services Wanted section of adverts also.
