Because of the price i was thinking of importing a used ps3 from US, some questions that will determine this:
    1. will blue ray/game discs that i buy in ireland work? or are they region locked?
    2. It's a ntsc ps3 i'm looking at, will it work on my 42" plasma (HD ready). Any difference in the picture from a pal ps3?
    3. will the ps3 from usa need it's power supply changed for use in ireland??
    4. because it's a used ps3 will i have to pay any import tax??

Any thoughts on these questions would be appreciated.

    1. so far everything besides Fox, blu-ray are region free.
    2. It'll work, everything for the past few years has been NTSC complient.
    3. dunno
    4. More than likely, a hefty bit too i'd say, will probably work out cheaper to get it here in the end because of the import duty.

Power supply is not an issue the ps3 onboard PSU is dual voltage. I know of 2 people with imported ps3's and they just plugged em straight in

A FAQ on this topic should really be sticked!! As the two lads said.
    2. I brought home an american one... works on my mams lcd tv and my monitor. To be honest i haven't even tried on a standard tv!(PS3's are simply not worth it if you only have a standard tv!!)
    3. It has the same power cable as a pc so just get one of those, power doesn't need to be converted.
4.You prob will get charged tax(correct me if im wrong but i think its 34% , VAT @ 21 and import @13!!) and even shipping on its own will be massive.. was thinking of shipping home a monitor while i was out there and it was $90 standard post (i wouldn't trust USPS though, i worked as a doorman in new york and one of my jobs was to sort the mail, every day there would be loads of mistakes... i once got a letter addressed to alabama ,not even the right state!!!)
    - $150 for fedex(the monitor weighed less than the ps aswell!!)

I second the idea of buying it here if you are not brining it home yourself. Pick one up on adverts with a game or two for E500 and your laughing!

    Thanks Guys
I still think it might be worth importing with the euro/dollar exchange rate at the minute.

Sony Bringing out a 40 GB version of the PS3 for Europe, discontinuing 60gb version.... And the price.... 399 euro. Dont buy one from america!

The American 60GB will cost you the same as a 40GB over here and it has all the features they removed from the 40GB. However you have to be pretty sure you aren't going to pay customs because if you do it won't be worth it at all.

I know someone going to the states soon who doesn't mind picking one up for me, but is there any way of taking advantage of the 5 free Blu-ray films mail in rebate from Ireland?
