my sister has a laptop with vista on it, norton came with it but it's now expired. i run avg on my pc with xp on it which works really well. is it wise to uninstall norton and use avg or a similar antivirus programme? have heard that avg doesn't always work well with vista. any suggestions

have been using avg with vista and don't notice any differance between how it works on xp.

using avast on another vista machine, just because avg wasn't supported with vista at first. that seems to work fine too.

is either any better than the other, i.e the avast or avg?

avast and avg are both pretty good, personally I feel AVG is better. But really both are great and free, and both are far better than Norton.

I use avast, just get rid of Norton. Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuutal!

AVG sometimes acted a bit weird for me when updating virus definitions automatically when the pc logs on, but just right clicking on the taskbar icon and chosing update from there always works.
Avast works perfectly for me under Vista as well, absolutely no complaints there...

At the end of the day, there's not a whole lot of difference between the two, but both are FAR superior to NAV.

AVG Free works flawlessly with Vista, The purchased version of AVG (Internet Security v7.5) has one known issue though, the Firewall does not work so you have to use it in conjunction with the windows Firewall for now.

AVG are aware of this & a permanent solution is being released soon.

    Norton is the devil.

People who use Norton could have saved themselves a lot of money if they just turned off their machines.

Both methods have the same effect :D:D:D
